Perhaps if the feds made the carriers track gate wait times and published the results we're see some actual improvement in this area. As far as I can tell it's just gotten worse over the years.

wonder if anybody ever missed out on a Porsche ride because the driver got tired of waiting and had to transport another DM at another gate.

I don't remember the last time I landed at ATL and didn't have to wait on a gate. Luckily ATL is almost always my destination and I don't have to worry about a connection. On my last flight we were supposed to be arriving into B concourse. Ended up driving around and finally settling on the farthest gate at E concourse. Of course when we get to that gate, there is a plane occupying it that the pilot claimed not to know about so we waited a while longer. At least one person got the Porsche treatment on that flight.

Don't forget, gate #'s are printed on your BP hours in advance, and can't be changed just with a snap

Is there anything more useless than having your gate assignment printed Eight Hours in advance? You're proably still at home packing, and its always subject to change anyway Will you park in a different lot if it's A instead of B? Take a different train? Rent from a different company?

"Make note of your gate number" but if it changes in the next several hours, "disregard this notice"

Perhaps these threads should be merged with the "OMG DL changed my departure gate at the last minute" threads for a balanced perspective.

actually, on my last flight through ATL, while waiting for a gate somewhere near the new terminal, I was looking out my first class window and saw a Porche on the taxiway speeding towards my plane. Must have been doing a 110 MPH.

It came to a screeching halt. Next, the stairs in the rear of the MD88 automatically opened. My name is called over the PA asking me to proceed to the aft galley stairs, where I was met by the Porche driver, who then sped me off to my next flight.
