Changing DL-coded AF seats

I've done a search and understand all the challenges of seat selection on DL-coded AF flights.

I finally got an AF agent to assign my seat CDG-JFK (have to wait until check-in for TXL-CDG). She gave me 40L. Seat 45L shows available on the seat map at delta.com. Even though it's further back, that seems like a better seat to me, since there are only two seats in that section instead of three across. Seatguru has nothing good or bad to say about it. Any thoughts? Is it safe for me to change the seat on delta.com, or do I need to call AF again to have them do it?

Just copy/paste your DL ticket number into the reservation/itineraries section of AF.com andyou can choose your seats thru AFs site

It is *NOT* safe to change any AF seat on DL.com - even if DL is showing you the seat as changed (which rarely happens), the selection is not communicated to AF. DLGrkItalNY is correct, the only online way to do it is the following:
  • on the very bottom of your DL trip display, you'll find the eTicke-number (under Payment Details)
  • copy that number and go to airfrance.us
  • under "manage my reservations", click on "other search criteria" and paste the eTicket-Number + your last name

Your TXL-CDG seat can actually be changed but often not online. Only a very knowledgable agent can do that prior to departure-24h if your are in Y. Be careful in TXL, the lounge is in terminal A (which has security at the gates), while many CDG flights depart from terminal D now with central security (that is often packed to the get-no-more). Plan at least 25-35 minutes if you dont have an early/late flight and depart from D.

Thanks to both of you! Very helpful!

on my DTW > CDG I recently called and the agent on the other end spent a minute and tried to get me a seat in the forward part of coach which he read as eligible for ST+. whatever he did worked, and he got me 25B, which is better than what af.com was showing available (>34abc....)

I'd still check anything showing on dl.com with af.com, klm.com, and or checkmytrip.com.

I actually found klm.com to be the most helpful when it comes to seat assignments. I've had AF flights where I couldn't change seats at AF.com or DL.com and KL.com was the only site to allow me that.
