Yes, there are two sets of "Classic" inventory, one available to FB members and another available to DL members. ExpertFlyer used to at least help you figure out whether there was actually O inventory (which was then bookable by DL) but EF no longer shows award inventory for KLM.

EF shows O for DL and Z for KLM. I did a test for KLM and had no problem finding KLM Z inventory for ATL-AMS.

That's "Upgrade with DL SWU/Global Upgrades & Fare Class". I know that used to be one and the same with award inventory (O class), but KLM awards still book into O, not Z... unless those classes mirror each other?

No they don't.

KVS shows Z for KL. Looking at KL644 03 JUN as well as 12 JUN.

J8 C8 D8 I7 Z7 for 03 JUN.
J8 C8 D8 I7 Z4 for 12 JUN.

FB reports classic C award avail. DL reports none.

Standard Awards on KL are currently booked in O Class; Z is for Upgrades (and the KVS Tool supports both):

There is currently no C Award Availability on that flight:

On KLM site, I see plenty of availability for nonstop flight from SFO to AMS on KLM site for award travel on 4/15 and return on 4/27 for 25000 miles each way.

When I tried to see the availability on delta.com, I don't see any availability for low award category and that too KLM is not mentioned anywhere.

I also called Delta Skymiles representative and told her I see nonstop service are available for award travel, I was told that KLM will not release everything to Delta, so no non-stop flights available to book on Delta using skymiles.

Is there any way to work around this?

After looking at Expertflyer.com for award availability, I do see more than 9 seats in economy cabin available to book in the nonstop flight from SFO to AMS as well.
How do I take advantage and book using Delta miles?

Don't think there is a way. Delta (or KLM) is blocking some award from being using by SkyMiles.

Award DEL to IAH trip on KLM using delta skymiles

Hey fellas, I am trying to book my Delta Skymiles to make a round trip from DEL to IAH, the only one stoppers are offered by either KLM or AF. While looking for the flight options, I have noticed something weird. On my return segment (IAH to DEL) Delta.com only shows me two stoppers if I search for any dates beyond March 10. Before and upto March 10, it shows 1 stoppers via AMS but nothing for months afterwards.

I wanted to have your expert feedback to see if you fellas had any idea on what might be going on. My guesses are:
1. Its too early and they open up inventories week or month at a time?
2. It might be start of busier travel times in spring / summer?
3. The agreements / negotiations between the two airlines haven't lined up?

Cheers!

Welcome to FT!

My guess would be #1, though I have no idea how far in advance KL makes award seats available. But award availability using DL miles is notoriously poor. If you find an acceptable routing two-stops, you might wish to consider accepting it while it's still available.

Business UPG on KL (NRT-AMS) using miles or Ecert?

Hi, all-

I have booked a NRT-AMS-GLA RT on KL in M class (Sept. 14-18) with an intention of upgrading to business class. I called DL Help Desk was told that there is an upgrade available for Y/B/M bookings using my Global E-certs. However, I would prefer to upgrade using Skymiles, and they said currently the mileage upgrade is available for Y/B bookings only.

Since my flights are in September, I decided to wait for a while and see if the M->Z mileage upgrade availability opens up later. Is waiting for another month or so a smart thing to do? Or if I wait too long, would the Ecert upgrade option be gone altogether?

Your sharing experiences/advise would be appreciated. Thanks!

It's difficult to say. M class does not clear into Z inventory but into O (I believe - but it's been a long time) which is much more scarce.

In a word, no. Delta's agent is telling the truth here. Flying Blue availability differs in two respects: KL has "flex" awards, which are not bookable with Delta Skymiles; and secondly KL has started to withhold some "low" award inventory from its Skyteam partners.

Using your dates and KVS, this is easy to see:

On 4/15 for SFO-AMS; availability is CA9 and YM9 (The "A" is flex, and neither biz cabin "C" nor coach cabin "Y" is available for a Skymiles booking.)

On 4/27 for AMS-SFO; availability is CS9 and YS9 for Flying Blue.
But availability is only CS2 and YS9 for Delta Skymiles, which reflects KL holding back at least 7 biz-class awards for its members only.

The good news is that there *is* award availability for 2 in biz-class and 9 or more in coach using Delta Skymiles for the return for the date you want.
