no upgrades on AF to O from S unless T-Atlantic

Have to interrupt my South Africa vacation for a family emergency.

Called plat desk to confirm that I need to buy S in order to upgrade to available O. Buy the ticket JNB-CDG in S.

now I'm told upgrades on AF are only valid on transatlantic flights.

Is this correct or should I call again?

That is how it's documented for SWUs. Here's a link:

You can upgrade from S to O using miles, regardless of destination. However, SWU certificates are restricted to transatlantic segments.

akonradi,

I am only speaking from dl.dumb...referenced below...but it looks like S->O upgrade is still only TATL.

Please update if I'm missing something...

DL Award & Upgrade Mileage

You can use your miles for a one-class upgrade on most Delta operated flights. Mileage upgrade awards do not apply on all fares. To view the miles needed, see Delta Upgrade Awards.

SkyMiles members can also use miles to upgrade to Business class when flying on a full fare economy class (Y) ticket on many of our SkyTeam member airlines. In addition, as a result of our enhanced relationship with KLM and Air France, SkyTeam mileage upgrades can now be used on the following KLM and Air France booking classes. On KLM operated flights: Upgrade from economy Y, B, M, and U classes to Business class. On Air France operated flight: Economy Y, B, and M class to Premium Voyageur class only on Transatlantic flights. Premium Voyageur W and S class to Business class only on transatlantic flights, except for 747 aircraft equipped flights. Upgrade request has to be done 24 hours before the departure for Air France and KLM operated flights. You will need to contact a Delta reservations agent by phone for more details and to process this upgrade request.

It indeed is not listed on Delta's website, however S --> O can be done as a SkyTeam Mileage Upgrade.

I processed one in September for SEA-CDG-NRT. It took multiple calls to SMS to get a knowledgable agent, but it did go through without issue.

I think many have gotten UG's on intra-EU flights if connecting with a TATL flight. And others have gotten EU-ME/Asia flights too. YMMV

Did they reissue your ticket while you were on the phone? IIRC, AF requires immediate reissue of the ticket when upgrading.

I second that. Call back and ask to be transfered to reissue desk or skyteam desk for immmediate reissue.

May I ask how many miles for the two segment?

Also, Delta-purchased W fare of an AF-operated TATL qualify for SWU upgrade to O. Would delta-purchased W fare of an AF premium economy on non TATL also qualify for miles upgrade? Delta W is notoriously cheaper than AF W and S fares...

Be excited, I just flew my first AF flight on the 388 and loved it. Much better than DL in service, attitude, and plane. Only DL's lie flats beat the angled lay flats by AF.
