Status Update Question
Posting here since the answer the phone agent gave me made zero sense.
I qualified for DM on Sunday but the miles haven't posted (should tonight) so my status still shows as PM. I called in to see if if checked in for my next flight (tomorrow) at 24 hrs would leave me sat as a PM on the UG list, or if when the status updated it would kick me upward. Agent then said it didn't matter because my status wouldn't change until the end of my trip. (Something I know is incorrect, because my PM status kicked in halfway through a trip a couple of months ago.) So, back to the original question. Check in at T-24, or wait for the miles to post and check in then? |

You can always wait and see - there's no material benefit to checking in early. Only that you can't see the upgrade list until you check-in, but at that early time it means almost nothing anyway...

There is no benefit to checking in at T -24 other than to see that you are #1 - at least once. after that its T - 60 minutes or in some cases T-30 minutes that determines who gets what.
Thanks! |

OK, so in other words my status at GA clearance time is what counts, not the status at checkin. (Early checkin just puts me ahead of anyone else on the same class of fare, and means there's one less thing for me to worry about tomorrow :) )
Thanks! I would wait as long possible to see whether having the miles post will help, although I suspect that status will update about a day after the miles post. |

No, early check I does not impact your priority for a gate upgrade.

Will be interesting to see what happens. Not that worried about the UG; plane appears to be 3/4 empty and I have lots of HOOU coupons that expire soon :D |

Really? I understood checkin time to be final tie breaker. Not correct?

I always thought that Medallion status for both system and gate upgrades was determined by your status at the time you bought your ticket. Is that not right?
Cheers, Mike Ticket time purchase does make sense as the tie-breaker. (Thanks to those who corrected me on this!) |
Update
Miles posted, Diamond status posted a bit later. Position on the upgrade list didn't change. It's possible I have all DMs above me, although given that there are fewer people below me than above me, I have to wonder. Will ask the nice folks in the SC to look for me later...
