Merging reservation(s) numbers?
Hi everyone - I tried searching for this topic because I seem to recall reading about this before, but can't find it. So, apologies if this is redundant... but here's the issue, I purchased two tickets for my mom/brother using pay with miles (paid for part, and redeemed awards for part) via delta.com. I then purchased a ticket for myself for the same flights paying for it via credit card. Both transactions were done via delta.com. Now, because I'm a PM Member with access to preferred seating, of course I wanted to reserve seats all together in the front end of Economy. I called Delta to request that the two reservations be merged into one and was quite rudely told with unnecessary attitude  that flat out it's not possible in anyway whatsoever -- mind you this is the line reserved for PMs. Has anyone had success in merging two separate reservations for the same flights, if so, how did you resolve it? The only reason they were booked separately was because of the two different payment methods. Thanks!

You cannot merge the reservations. You can link the PNR's though and request the PM desk assign your family members better seats.

+1. Call back until you get somebody to put you in seats near each other. It can be done.

Last winter I purchased 2 J seats (supercheap I fares) from JFK-BRU. I paid for one ticket entirely with vouchers, and another with an unused ticket and cash. Due to the complexity of the purchase, I could not buy them on the same PNR. A few hours after the tickets were issued I decided I wanted to extend the trip a day. I called up the diamond line, gave the agent both PNRs, and he immediately reissued the tickets on one PNR with the new outbound flight. No change fees. That flight was cancelled 3 days in a row due to the big Christam nor'easterr, but thats a whole other story. |

Though this has gotten more difficult recently with Preferred Seat Monetization. |

I do agree that it is impossible, but...

Wirelessly posted (beckoa's PWP wondrousdevice3.0: Mozilla/5.0 (BlackBerry; U; BlackBerry 9810; en-US) AppleWebKit/534.11+ (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/7.0.0.261 Mobile Safari/534.11+)
So it typically is possible to call DL and have them secure better seats for companions if on a separate PNR? |

This is because the agent you talked with the second time rebooked both passengers into a new PNR. I am sure that the new confirmation number/record locator number/whatever you want to call it was different than either of the first two confirmation numbers. Just as it is not possible to combine two separate PNR's into one, it is not possible to increase the number of passengers traveling in any single PNR.

I hope the agent explained to you that he or she was reissuing the tickets on a single PNR. If you were not aware of this, you could have an ugly surprise when an expected upgrade did not clear at the window.

If you don't like what you hear, be polite, hang up and call again and hopefully you get a different person. There's a few ladies in SLC that I've had the pleasure of getting on the phone the last couple times I've called - not only can they pronounce my last name correctly - and it is a real bugger - but they've done wonders for me. There's one agent in particular who I always hope to get. I don't want to give her name out here for fear of something happening against her but I swear she is a magician of some sort. |
