Main SC at DTW To Be "Modernized"

According to an article in today's (11/13) Detroit News/Free Press the main SC at DTW will be modernized starting in Dec.

Just wonder if and when they'll do the same to the other three "WCs" at DTW.

Quote and link.

Built by Northwest Airlines when the $1.2-billion McNamara opened at Detroit Metro Airport in 2002, the Sky Club will be getting a makeover starting in December, opening up the spaces to create a more modern feel. The club will remain open during the estimated two-month remodeling.

Delta alone among U.S. carriers still has free alcohol
Well, the author didn't do much research.

Curious what those modernizations will be. The furniture could stand a refresh, though.

While it costs $450 annually to belong to Delta's Sky Club, a day pass is only $50 and a three-month pass is $90.
Another error.

This whole article is terrible. And I haven't even digested the news to rant about what a dumb idea this is.

I e-mailed her. I'm sure she'll roll her eyes on Monday when she reads my corrections.

Do some research... ugh.

It is very American, this ability for anyone to access an "elite" club. Most foreign carriers don't allow it.

"On foreign carriers, the club products are built into their frequent traveler programs, so only if you have platinum status or something like that do you get access to the club," says Paul Skrbec, a Delta spokesman. "In the United States, our model is a little bit different."
I wish Delta would follow the foreign carriers' policies...

I love this Sky Club - one of my favorites in the system.

I don't want it to open up. I like having the freedom to move to another room if the people around me or whatever is on TV annoys me.

I hope they do not go with that blue light thing they did at the ATL clubs and the bad "modern" furniture. I think the DTW club is one of the last SCs that actually has a business/Parlor feel. I like "modern" in my night clubs and restaurants. An Airport "club" should have a more sedate old school atmosphere. Bookcases, lamps, wood, etc. Having separate rooms with comfy Chairs is one of the best parts of the DTW club. I hope "open it up" does not mean make it one big room. I spend far less time in SCs now that I am UA/RCC (very much an old school "club" feel) but when I do use DL the DTW club is one of the things I look forward to. Hope they do not ruin that as well.

This is very sad news

Say goodbye to the richness of the sophisticated warmth of a business lounge.

Say hello to the cold feel of a blue and white drenched modern jungle that screams cheap and tacky!

While I agree that they could better use the space. I fear the end product....

I, too, like the DTW SCs.

I guess if you still want the warmer old-fashioned look, you'll have to use one of the other three locations at DTW.

I hope they don't ruin the centerpoint location too much.

I originally predicted this was going to happen in the first months of 2012, but looks like they wanted to take advantage of the busiest travel season of the year. Good job Delta!

Oh.... and a big on destroying the Detroit SkyClub.

While I'm sure some people like that dark, 70s, retirement home look and feel, I'm glad they are updating it.

Could use a modest refresh but I love the self-serv area and the computer hide aways in the back. Please don't change much and please do not do the blue light stuff that has it ATL.
