Thanks!

On March 1, 2015, DL rebranded Economy Comfort as "Comfort+."
Delta - Comfort+
dl.com: LINK
Comfort+ FAQ - LINK
Offering:
  • C+ is a complimentary upgrade (space available) for DM and PM after booking. GM can access for free at T-72 and FO at T-24. (There is no longer a discount for GM/FO.)
  • Sky Priority boarding
  • Extra legroom and, on international a/c, extra recline
  • Free wine, spirits and regional craft beers, plus premium snacks
  • Complimentary premium entertainment from Delta Studio™ (No longer relevant as of July 1st; Entertainment now complimentary in Y)
  • On JFK-LAX/SFO flights, a Luvo® sandwich wrap and frozen Greek yogurt bar, pillow, blanket, and sleep kit are included

A few general notes regarding DL C+:
  1. On international a/c, the bulkhead seats often have a significant amount leg room (other than the 764).
  2. The bulkhead and exit row seats are often narrower as the tray table and/or IFE unit are in the arm rests. The arm rests do not move which, coupled with a smaller seat, can be uncomfortable for larger pax.
  3. The first row of regular economy seating after EC IS NOT recommended. The last row of EC has the EC recline and members have reported that there's no extra space between this row and the first row of regular Y.
  4. Selecting C+ Seats - You cannot select or purchase C+ seats until after booking is completed on revenue or award tickets. The UG has to clear as well.

Internationally Configured Aircraft
Per DL, International/transoceanic C+ offers 35" pitch and 6" recline. (LINK)

747-400 / 744 / 74S:
  • dl.com seat map: 747-400
    Rows 22-26 - 42 total C+ seats.
  • Legroom:
Row 22 ABC/HJK and 24 DEFG are the bulkhead seats. 22C/H are noted as having unlimited legroom and some have noted that people can congregate due to the proximity of the lavatories, which are located directly in front of the first row of C+ on the 744. 22ABC have recently received poor reviews because of the lav and galley - people tend to congregate in this area and it can become stinky. Comments on 22K indicate that pax can access the aisle without disturbing other passengers. Also, the lavatory near 22HJK is blocked for BusinessElite pax, so there tends to be fewer disturbances and become less smelly over the course of a long flight. Also, seats 22B and 22J can be used for bassinets.
Some might prefer the legroom of row 35/51 on the 744 with less recline and tray in armrest.

    Rows 31-34; 36 C+ seats
NOTE: As DL reduced the number of Business Elite seats on the 777s, rows 29-32 are now the C+ seats.
The C+/Economy seats on a/c has winged headrests.
  • Legroom:
Row 29/31 seats are the bulkhead seats and have plenty of leg room. Rows 30-32/32-34 are standard C+ seats with USB and plug power. Row 44 (exit row) has excellent legroom, but no power outlets. The window seat sin this row are narrower because the tray table is in the armrest does not move up. The recline is standard recline.
    IFE:
These a/c are equipped with IFE at each seat.

  • Legroom:
On the 764, the bulkhead seats (row 15) have less leg room than the 763's; there's probably about 2' or so between the edge of the seat and the wall. The bulkhead seats do not have moveable arm rests and the tray table/IFE monitor are in the arm rests. In my experience, I felt like the A332/333 and 763's had better recline in EC than the 764.
  • IFE:
These a/c are equipped with IFE at each seat.

Status Changes:
There have been a couple of questions regarding C+ when a member's status drops down after January 31. Typically, seats will hold unless there is an equipment change. If there's a change, the passenger(s) will most likely be seated in regular economy. There are reports of some success contacting @delta to get reseated in C+.

Delta claims the 717 coach (and C+) seats are 18.1" wide, I'm a bit dubious, but they are probably about 18 in -- ie: a little more comfortable than 737 economy seats (have you done OK on UA E+ 737s?). I've found the F cabin on the 717 very loud, with a piercing sound from the aircon unit in the overheads around row 2. If you opt for First, bring earphones or earplugs!

Your MD-88 flight may be a bit less comfortable. I guess DL used the 737-type seats back in the day, as they are the more cramped 17'2" (see the DL aircraft guide for details). Definitely avoid the front row of C+ as I believe those are 16.8" narrow (again, it's the tray table in the armrest that causes a squeeze).

On most bookings, DL now lets you buy different cabins for each direction - you could consider F for the -88 and C+ for the 717, I suppose.

Hope you have a good trip!
Thank you! I didn't know which aircraft had the better F. We'll do C+ on one and F on the other! Most of our flying on United is sadly on crjwhatevers, so E+ is barely tolerable on them, e- is quite uncomfortable imo. Using a companion cert with the Delta amex, so free flight for the hubs! He can cough up some extra $ for the slight upgrade!

As a result, you can now purchase C+ seats as an ancillary purchase after booking as well as a fare while booking.

If you are a Medallion member, these routes are upgrade eligible. Otherwise, you would have to look for an offer to buy-up to C+ -- and yes, sometimes these offers are crazy expensive, and other times they are cheaper than if you would've bought the C+ fare to start with.

Since you are within 24 hours of booking, try to see if the Delta Comfort+ fare (W) is priced appropriately for you and maybe purchase that one and cancel the Main Cabin ticket.

I believe DL allows you to just go on the seat map and purchase a seat in a higher cabin, but I don't know if the TATL rollout has occurred yet.
Just booked a flight for my wife (TUL-AMS) and found out above change. As she has no status, it basically means her ticket is now fully in C+ (also TUL-ATL leg). Usually we would purchase the long-haul in C+ and get an upgrade on the domestic leg. We could not purchase the same tickets as I fly out earlier, but return on same flights. So this new booking category gives us less flexibility ~ not a major impact but not too happy with this.

Not sure if Medallion members get the C+ seats (upgrades?) on TATL... my work will likely buy C+ to begin with, so cannot figure that out. Anyone had a seat allocated in C+ on a Europe-bound flight?

For TATL flights PM and DM can get C+ at no extra cost at the time of booking, assuming seats are available. GM gets it at 72 hours before departure (less likelihood of availability) and FO at 24 hours.

I almost always fly TATL direct from MSP (so as PM I go more or less instantly to C+). But when we flew MSP-JFK-SNN, we couldn't get access to C+ on the US domestic legs last spring. Is that still a bug (or 'feature') of the C+ fare class on int'l with a domestic connection?

I’m looking at JFK-KEF in October & I see this is one of the transatlantic routes where business class has been replaced by comfort +. The seat map on delta.com must be wrong though because it seems to suggest there is a first class at the front of the plane. Any ideas?

Is the comfort + seat on these routes the same as the ones from say JFK-SFO or will they have a fleet of planes just for the KEF, SNN routes etc?

This is not completely true.

First class has been rebranded as Premium Select on this route, but the old Comfort+ is still Comfort+. C+ will be your typical C+ on a 757 (ie, with slightly more legroom and recline than normal seats). Premium Select will have the old First Class seat with most of the PS amenities.

The following thread contains the discussion about the change: Delta downgrading from business to premium-economy on some TATL routes

I'm not a DL flyer and typically stick with IB but I have a flight coming up and I'm considering buying the upgrade. One question that may tip the difference is does buying the Comfort seat change your fare basis? The flight I'd buy it on is currently a T fare and only gets me 25% on Flying blue but changing it to a 100% earn would go a long way to maintaining status there and would certainly be a consideration.

Did something change recently for AF-marketed DL-operated flights with C+ seats? I could swear that I used to be able to buy an AF codeshare on DL metal and pick the free C+ seats as a PM. The website prevents it now and the agent I spoke with at the call center said it's not allowed. Any insights on this?

EDIT: Strangest thing happened -- it looks like my ticket was reissued with DL flight numbers now (like two hours after booking). Automatically put me in C+... I'm not complaining...

DL only recently made C+ a separate fare class on TATL routes after moving AF/AZ/VS PE seats from the W fare class to P/A/G fare classes. This freed-up the W fare class for exclusive use on DL C+ seats. Previously, C+ on TATL routes was just an extra add-on option which could be assigned to Plat/Diamonds at any time after purchase and did not involve a fare class change. AF/KL have no equivalent C+ fare class and no concept of an auto-upgrade like DL has. If you buy an AF/KL coded DL flight, you are now technically only entitled access to C+ on a day of departure waitlist basis.

I agree. The quality of the onboard earbuds is also highly variable. One pair I tried caused the audio to be higher pitched than usual. Others have been satisfactory, but I recommend bringing your own when you can.

I just wanted to post this announcement from Delta in case anyone comes across this thread/forum. I recall someone mentioning mentioning this issue, but I can't find it.

Agents and customers have reported that fares in markets that involve a connection on Air France-KLM beyond Paris (CDG) or Amsterdam (AMS) were not functioning as intended. Delta has temporarily suspended offering Delta Comfort+ fares in these markets while we work with our partners to find a solution. Our intent is to reintroduce these fares once a solution is implemented.

Customers will continue to be able to purchase Delta Comfort+ as a fare to destinations which are served by Delta-operated flights. However, Delta is not able to offer Delta Comfort+ as a fare on itineraries that connect beyond AMS or CDG on one of our partner airlines at this time.

Note that customers are also not able to obtain Delta Comfort+ as an ancillary purchase on itineraries which include AF/KL segments. Delta is currently working on a solution to re-introduce ancillary purchase options in these markets.
*Bolding mine

If you do a search for flights to places in Europe the DL TATL flights that connect in Europe to AF/KL have SOLD OUT in the Comfort+ column. However the seat maps do not show the C+ seats as unavailable. I don’t know what happens if you try to select C+ seats at the time of booking as a PM/DM.
