MD 80s and 90s
What a TERRIBLE aircraft this is for flying. I wish Delta would sell them off and replace them with something more customer friendly. Narrow isles, small/cramped galley and no video. Come on Delta, get rid of these antiques.

I'd rather live in an MD 90 than fly in a CRJ 200....But to each his own....

 Nothing wrong with the MD-90s. Good plane.

One of the quietest aircraft in the fleet towards the front... but, if you are unfortunate enough to be towards the back then ugh! :D
|
I like them.
1. Fewer middle seats. 2. As mentioned, (much) quieter up front. 3. It's been a while since I've been on an MD-90, but I thought they had the drop down videos. Were they removed? |
I know, let's have Delta buy 3000 or so triple 7's and have DL only fly those aircraft around .... doesn't matter if the company makes a profit or not - only fly the best, right?
Anything, and I mean anything, is better than a crj-200 or a dash-8. I'll take a mad dog anyday over those 2 choices and I'm HAPPY about it. Take a look at what the competition is flying in your city and if its that much better JUMP. For me, I'll stay with Delta. |
Flew on an MD88 not long ago that had the 16F mod done. I like the seats, especially the winged headrest. Nothing quieter in F than these birds.
|
Those babies are nice and quiet up front. And even if you're in back, the 2-3 config means you've got an 80% chance of not being in a middle seat.

Better than the Airbii which lack video and you have to deal with the barking dog (though exit row on the A319 is nice if you can snag it)

My favorite DC9/MD80 specific sound is the unique sound that the slats make as they're retracted after takeoff. As a passenger, I'd rather have the MD80/90 over the B737 as I find the B737 seats less comfortable. The bottom cushion seems too hard and the arm rests are too low for me. Also, Douglas built a very strong airplane. Much stronger than Boeing. |

Id take one every flight rather than that airbus thing with all the noise and stuff
|
I've noticed the MD-88 to be pretty comfortable on the D/E side in Y. No complaints here.
However, the new MD-90 with those weird bench-like cushions on the other hand--that is not a comfortable craft in Y. In F it's just fine, and I love the winged headrests. In Y, I guess we might have to wait for the cushions to break in a bit or something. Wishful thinking. |
At least the MD90's/88's have four rows of F unlike the 319 that would likely replace them.
Also they are better than a CRJ like others have mentioned. In addition, many of the 90's also have overhead video, which is something that the 319/320's or regional jets have. Not that overhead video is that great, but at least it is something plus they have the music available also in case you did not bring anything to do. |
