Using Beverage Carts in BE???

I just wanted to see if anyone else has seen this. The title pretty much sums it all up, on a recent flight inter-Asia on a 757 with only about 8 people in BE, the Flight Attendant came down the aisle with the beverage cart to serve drinks and food. I'm not going to give the specific flight details because I don't want the crew to get in trouble and the service was actually great! But I thought it was pretty tacky to come down the aisle with the cart and have the sheet with everybody's name there and look at it constantly to address people by name.

I have another thread going about the UG policy (or lack thereof) inter-Asia but was surprised to see this on one of my four inter-Asia flights served by a 757. Also, interesting to note that the toothpick came in a Northwest Airlines package and the cart had an NWA logo on it! Just curious if anyone else has experienced this and what your feeling is on a cart coming down the aisle in BE.....especially with so few passengers seated up front

Oh, the Humanity.

Maybe they're using the cart since the 757 is configured as domestic F, so they want to make sure you don't mistake any of the experience for a true BE flight.

I must admit I've never flown any Asian routes, but I seem to recall reading here that cart service is still standard in first/business class on intra-Asia flights.

Last week, I flew DTW-TPE through NRT and of the five trips this year, it was the first time that the NRT-TPE leg was on the original DL 275 from DTW. The other four times, the equipment changed from the 747 to either a A330 or 777. I was sitting in 77K the during the DTW-NRT leg, the upper deck was completely full and it was the standard BE service. I reboarded and retook seat 77K for the NRT-TPE leg and noticed that the BE service used the carts with the UD only half full. I thought it was odd, but maybe the FA was comfortable using the cart.

Let me make sure I get it .. You are upset because the cart the food was served in had a NWA logo but u were on a Delta flight?

Just kidding! :) Yea, its probably odd that they brought the food card, lol.

Service carts are still standard operating procedure for Intra-Asian flights. Who knows why, maybe because of the shorter stage length? Some of those flights aren't more than 3 hours and still get full meal service.

Interesting. I'm curious to see if I experience any equipment changes or UD capacity changes on my DTW-NGO trip next week...

Maybe it was a leftover! :D . . . .

. . . . <from the good old days!> :)

The presumption is that service will be faster with a cart, so that is a plus on a short flight.

On longer flights that obviously does not matter.

Why oh Why does the cart offend so many?

I've wondered that also. I truly don't understand. Can someone explain?

MANY <not I> have posted that if seems / feels tacky for the "First Class Experience". I suppose that I might feel differently if I was on a paid F ticket.

NW used to use the cart, and apparently DL didn't, so during the occasional appearance of the cart, some (mostly original DL customers) get into a little tizzy about it.

My 2 cents: It doesn't matter to me. I might feel differently, if I was used to a more pampered lifestyle! :D

Not sure about that routing, but as far as the DTW-TPE for me, four out of five trips this year have had equipment changes in NRT. There have been annoucements made in BE (or somebody is holding sign as we de-plane) to go to the gate to get a new seat assignment. I actually thought it was standard procedure so they wouldn't have to fly a 747 and could go with something smaller.

Beverage cart is still standard on those flights. Last time they actually passed around the bottles of salad dressing for you to squeeze and then pass to the next person. Very strange...

I've Never Understood This Either

As long as they serve me, it doesn't matter to me if it comes from a cart.

AF uses carts in J class. Their service is very good.
