Silver status

I am 145 miles short of earning silver medallion status for this year. I am not sure whether I will be flying again this year as a lot of my trips are last minute. I called Delta to see if they could add 145 MQM's to my account in order to earn silver status....No go. Talked to the supervisor as well.

Any way around this besides traveling? Any success trying to get MQM's from Delta and give me advice on the right way of going about it?

Ask AMEX and ye shall receive thine desired MQMs . . . for a small fee . . . that may be waived the first year!

i have a platinum amex skymiles card and an amex platinum card. i have to cross a certain threshold with the skymiles card in order to earn those mqm's.

What is it that you want that you don't already have with the Delta Amex?

Seabilly Oct 1, 2011 6:59 pm

Late last year (Nov?) they offered MQMs for donations to Delta preferred charities. Don't know if they plan to repeat that, but the offer was 5K-15K MQMs for a $500 donation to 1, 2, or 3 different charities. If they do it again, that would be a way of doing it without flying.

With flying, taking the cheapest flight anywhere will gain you 500 MQMs and put you over.

I seen very few bumps to the next level since they instituted roll-overs. Doesn't mean it never happens anymore, but it is very rare (and IIRC, the bump ups I saw were Plats who came within a very few miles of Diamond getting the bump up...and them requesting Delta to put them back to Plat so they could have a hefty roll-over.)

Edit to add: Also just reread your 2nd post. Upgrade to the Delta Reserve Card and you can also score additional MQMs (the difference between the current offer and what you got for your Delta Plat card)

I smell a mileage run...

I'd do a quick MR unless you want to pay a $450 annual fee for the DL Amex Reserve.

DL always has been firm on holding the line, making you earn all of you MQM's. Quite frankly, I'm glad they do this.

LMAO-

OP,
Depending on your city, Delta sometimes has fares as low as 59 dollars and you have until Dec 31. I took the silver challenge back in May and I had to fly six segments to do it and on my last two segments I simply booked ATL-CLT roundtrip, it cost me 150 dollars or so.

Sign up for Amex Reserve and get the 10k MQM's.

Transfer 100,000 Amex points and get 25k MQM's.(Which would then put you 145 MQM's short of gold.)

Hope that they have an offer at the end of the year like last, where you can donate money to charities and earn MQM's.

^. I'm happy that "almost" just doesn't cut it anymore.

OP, fly somewhere...

atrich Oct 3, 2011 12:17 pm

I second those recommendations in the thread - just find somewhere to fly! It doesn't have to be close by, thanks to rollover.

Silver status doesn't come with a lot, but being able to book exit row/bulkhead makes a big difference in my opinion.

Preferred seats are a huge quality of life difference. I'd definitely say it's worth taking a short flights somewhere to get the MQM.

Further, upgrades do happen, even as a lowly FO. I’m 7/12 eligible flights for upgrades this year. Most of my upgrades have been to/from leisure destinations, but I did once luck into a Thursday evening upgrade on a 5:35pm flight from DCA-JFK.

Except on elite-heavy routes where, in my experience, the OH in the preferred seating area fills up around mid-Zone 2 boarding. This is when I'd prefer a seat in the back to be with my carry-on and all the other Delta AmEx card holders.

If you have any 2-night + hotel stays coming up, go with Hilton Family and get the needed MQMs for silver.

Not to stop your charity, but do 1&2 and rollover 24k MQM and then go to GM for the next 2 years with routine flying. You can always give without worrying about MQMs

Even if you don't, i've actually gotten credit before from giving my hotel points number (and opting for airline points) to friends.

Where are you based? I doubt it's worth it to upgrade to the Delta Reserve card for $450 annual fee, I'm sure you can find a flight for cheaper than that. It'll only take you one leg since minimum MQM's is 500. You've got a few months still, just take a quick there and back on one day you have free to somewhere that's cheap.

Just rent a car for a weekend and credit your SM account.

Which car rental agency is currently offering MQMs for a weekend rental?

avidflyer Oct 4, 2011 7:02 am

Hilton is giving away 250MQMs for a 2 night stay.

Hetrz was for a while. Not sure if it is still out there.

I agree, go with Delta Reserve if you fly enough to make Skyclub access worthwhile.
