Pnr Probs

So.... I just booked my flight from msy - atl -fll for a cruise with the family

I used award tickets for the wife and kid and purchased my own.

I called medallion desk to get the three of us sitting together, and was denied.

I was told they couldn't put them in seats held for medallions.

There are a ton of 3 rows avail up front, none in back.

I know i've had an agent do this at least two other times.

was i just lucky? is it unfair to ask for the seats, am I robbing you guys of them?

They say she's not on same Pnr, because of award ticket and I can't change that. Can't join me on upgrade list either.

the rules...........

call back and try a different agent...

I may be wrong, but I believe that to be upgraded as a companion, your wife needs to be on a paid ticket. As a non-status companion on an award ticket, she isn't eligible.
(Probably doesn't matter anyway; based on my personal experience, medallion upgrades in and out of FLL for a GM have been few and far between recently.)

I think the op means "up front" in the economy cabin. Not first class upgrade. OP, as a gold, I've purchased a ticket with miles for a friend, used $ for mine and we sat next to each other in preferred seats at the front of Econ. Call again and ask again :)

Call back..

javabytes Sep 8, 2011 6:47 am

You may find a rep willing to put you in preferred seats in economy, but there is zero chance of them joining you on the upgrade list unless they are GMs or higher.

Last year my spouse and I had a friend join us on a trip to HKG. I helped him out buy subsidizing his ticket with pay with miles from my account. He was on a separate pnr as a result. I had no problem getting him seated with us in the preferred seats. Our connecting flight from BDL to DTW even change a couple times and it kicked him to the back and I never had a problem having him moved up with us. We even had an opportunity to catch an earlier connection back to BDL when arriving back at DTW. The help desk after customs SDC'd all of us onto an earlier flight. Make sure that they link your companions pnr to yours!

OP here...

I did mean the front of the economy cabin, not the fc cabin.

The three of us did an a320 from msy to lax in june, and we were booked in row 6.

Now, I bought all 3 tickets then. We didn't actually fly in them we got the UG to first. My daughter is 2, they let her sit on our lap.

For takeoff I sat in row 6 in economy and walked up there after 10K feet.

Flight attendant told me no need, either keep her on my lap or just take the empty seat in first right behind them.

But no, this time its award seating, not looking for an UG, just want the three of us to sit together in the front of the econ. cabin where many seats are available.

I'll call back.

Oh, and i guess i need to update my signiture. I'm Plat. now. segs away from diamond. lol

Anytime you don't get the answer you want, politely end the call and hang up. I don't believe that DL is obligated to move your non-PNR family forward, but most CSR's will if you ask nicely. You can then try again at OLCI, check-in counter, Club and gate.

FlyingUnderTheRadar Sep 8, 2011 11:56 am

The agent was correct because your family is not on the same PNR as you, as they they can not take advantage of any of your benefits. That ranges from free baggage, priority boarding, preferred seating, etc. Those are the exact rules.

Now that does not mean an agent will not over look then rules and seat you together, especially as you have a child traveling with you or if there are no seat together further back. However, given that the airlines are using baggage fees as a major source of income I would plan to check all bags in your name. And make sure when using the priority line and boarding that your credentials/BP are on top.

New call --- new agent --- no problem

We're all together now, and she went a step further and said she would link our PNR's and that way they'll know were traveling together, and they'll get to check their bags free (her words, not mine)

told me to enjoy the cruise, and that was that.

When you call back to try another agent with the same question, do you think they have any record of your having called before? Any 'code' that they put on your file? Just wondering. . . .

yamaka Sep 8, 2011 2:54 pm

This should never be an issue -- I can't believe an agent gave you problems. I have a flight XXX-DCA, PHL-XXX in a couple of months. My adult son lives in PHL and will be on the same flights as mee for the PHL-XXX part. Clearly, we are on different PNRs and different itineraries, yet I called the Gold desk, asked if I could get him seats with me in the elite section, with no problem. He is not elite, and is flying on an award ticket.

I think that only happens when they suspect fraud or the caller threatens action. That's why -- no matter how frustrating -- just politely end the call.
