To add to that, I never saw any fine print on the website and it was not until I got my email confirmation that the pass is only valid for a single use.

Therefore, it makes no sense to get a 24 hour pass. Save yourself the 12.95 or even the 25% discount and go with a flight pass of $4.95.

Could you do me a favor and drop me a PM with the email you got? Something certainly isn't right. The $4.95 flight pass only applies to short (>650 mile) flights so someone on a transcon won't see it.

GOGO is just too expensive

Glad to see a GOGO rep on this board. In a day when Wifi is free nearly everywhere, many airports offer it for free, hotels, I think GOGO is just priced too high. The bottom line is that it should be $5/12h and advertised and I think you'd see a jump in numbers. The problem is that nearly 30 minutes on each end of a flight can be (or said to be) under 10K' and the system is useless. Thus, even for a 5.5h transcon, you have 5h and are competing with meal service for your tray space, etc.... This truly should be an economy of scale type product. It would actually be hard to find a place that charges even more than $5 for 4h of Wifi and even then there would be alternatives, lobby in the hotel, hotel bar might offer free, internet shop down the street. I do like the fact it is available and I do hope GOGO makes a 'go of it'. In only one instance did I plonk down over $8 for a transcon when I had a project I just had to complete. I just make sure I really don't need internet access when I fly. Sorry, but pricing needs to be more realistic.

Agreed.

I had been an (almost monthly) $19.95 monthly mobile pass buyer, until that product disappeared.

I probably bought 5 or 10 of those over the past year. Since that option disappeared, Gogo lost all of my money, because the one flight options are too high, and the $34.95 option is a pain to expense.

I'm with you. There are times when I need the in-flight wifi for work, other times it's just a luxury. I understand paying a bit more for internet access when I'm on a plane but the service provided should be consistent with the cost. When I can't send an e-mail or a text from my texting app on my iPad because the system is too slow or has certain services blocked, it's a problem. Unless you want to spend half of a transcon on Facebook, Gogo is frequently not worth the money spent. Would be nice if the advertisements on the plane for their service would include all of the limitations to their access. Can't tell you the number of times I've heard newbs complaining about the $10 they spent only to find their "internet" access wasn't fully functional.

Not that I'm advocating any cheating of the system, but, this thread makes me think - - Is there any reason why, for example, a husband/wife can't share a Gogo subscription, if they're not flying/trying to use it at the same time?

Just for the record . . . I'm NOT married, and I really don't know anybody who has a paid Gogo subscription, so I'm NOT planning to do it - - Just curious.

About a year ago, I did pay for a month, when it was cheaper. One time, when my laptop battery died, I gave my login/password to the girl sitting next to me.

I know people who do this.

I disagree completely as I normally fly transcons and that makes me out of the office for nearly a full day and GOGO (until tonight) has never failed to connect to my VPN client to allow me email access on a flight. The monthly cost given how much I fly breaks out to about $2.50 per flight and that it worth every penny to me.

Just my two cents though ... YMMV

Has that happened to anyone else?

I had this happen today. I pre-paid for a 24 hour pass yesterday in order to get the discount on my flights today. On my first flight, SFO-ATL, I followed the instructions in the confirmation email:

Instructions for Delta 24 hour pass
----------------------------------------
How to use your Delta Inflight Internet Pass on your next flight:

1. Print and retain this page as the promotion codes below are required to activate Gogo service when inflight.

2. Once the plane has reached 10,000 feet and you can safely use electronic devices, search for wireless networks with your laptop, phone, or other device. Select 'gogoinflight' as the wireless network and launch your browser.

3. Click 'See all Gogo Pricing Options' and select any Gogo Pass valued $12.95 or less

Everything went fine on that flight (although, yes, it was slow). On my next flight I got an error message saying that my code wasn't recognized. I used the chat live option on the Gogo page and the rep told me that I should have selected 24 hour pass when I redeemed my purchase on the first flight. They sent me a new code to use within seconds, so good customer service, but I think they need to revisit the wording in the confirmation emails for pre-purchased passes.

Bring back the $19.95 monthly mobile pass, and I'll buy again.

I primarily fly transcons and international routes and have logged about 225,000 miles this year so far and I have used Gogo on about 85% of the flights where it was available. Of those 85% of flights, I would say that the experience was what I would expect it to be 30-40% of the time. I have had issues with my VPN client not connecting, my e-mails showing sent, landing and finding out that they never went out, my texting app on my iPad not connecting to ground based clients and colleagues, the bandwidth decreasing to the point that it might as well be an old dial up modem...you get the picture. I'm pleased to hear someone who routinely has a positive experience with Gogo because I haven't and I could provide you with a list of DL DMs, many who contribute to this board who regularly complain about these very issues.

If the Gogo company rep is still reading these threads, I think these are legitimate issues that warrant looking into further.

Anyone that thinks wi-fi should be free anywhere, let alone inflight, should probably price out commercial grade routers and wifi equipment. It's not just a $49.95 Best Buy router strung between a few network cables in an airport that gets you free wireless.

Hey, I like free too, I'm annoyed with airports like DTW don't have free wifi but don't kid yourself, any place that offers free wifi the cost is being absorbed somewhere, in local taxes, terminal charges, a corporate sponsor, advertising, etc.

davetravels Sep 4, 2011 12:50 pm

I read some posts here, and verified with some simple searches, that the equipment for Gogo costs something like $120K per plane!!! Amazing!

I don't doubt this amount at all. The simple logistics of equipping an aircraft with the technology to bounce an internet signal off of towers while traveling at a speed of several hundred miles per hour is quite a feat. Thus, I have no issue paying more for access than, say, a hotel where providing wifi is simple. My issue is getting what I pay for. If what Gogo sells is unlimited access to the internet, it should be able to deliver what it is selling. So, they either need to change their advertising campaign to clarify what their product is, and more importantly what it is not, or they need to change their pricing structure to more realistically align with the experience they provide. For me, sometimes it is a necessity that I can not bypass. For this reason, I feel worst for the average flyer in the next seat who sees Gogo as a novelty or needs it for work on a rare occasion only to log on and find that he/she can't actually get their work done because the product is simply inferior to what they claim it to be.

Since there are flight numbers like 1492 to CMH, 1776 to PHL and 1849 to SFO, it only stands to reason that other people get their rocks off with funny promo codes.

I guess what threw me off initially was that you didn't dial Jenny, you dialed a 7-11 in Jersey City. (it's 867-5309)

Don't forget 777 to LAS
