Need help making lemonade
I just booked an award ticket on Tuesday for a flight on Saturday to PLS (Turks and Caicos). My business there was a live aboard scuba diving trip. Bad weather is now forecast (tropical storm) that would make this trip a lemon. All segments are (N) class. If I don't use it, it will be forfeited.
Can this ticket still be upgraded to a ticket that will retain some value? |
Nope, under Delta policy you get the shaft. You cannot pay any amount of money to change, redeposit, or upgrade your ticket. You can call and ask for your "once in a lifetime" waiver. Or you can wait to see if a weather waiver is issued.

This "once in a lifetime" thing intrigues me. Hell, I'm already old! May be my LAST chance.
Can I just request this from any agent or should I seek out a someone with more authority? |
just hang on -- *if* a tropical storm hits, there might be a weather waiver. that would be interesting to test... or, your flight could be canceled, at which point you just request a free refund/redeposit... this does mean you have to be ready to go if the weather doesn't show..

I have been in the Caribbean during a tropic storm. Just go. You might lose a day or two of diving and the vis might not be the best but they will move the ship around to give a reasonable trip.
|
The Saturday flight will not likely be cancelled. The weather is not expected to deteriorate until late Monday at earliest. The weather should be fine by the following Saturday. I'd get two good diving days in before the storm but would lose two to three days out five. (TU,WE,TH). If the storm is real close or reaches hurricane strength it would wipe out Friday too.

FlyingUnderTheRadar you make a good point and that is what I may end up doing. What scares the hell out of me is my proneness to seasickness. I'll be totally patched but I will will never forget some of my Mal de Mer experiences.

Just go. If it was a paid ticket you would probably go. The weather could shift and you could have great weather.

The video might seem tongue and cheek, but this is one of the best bars in NYC (voted best by industry peers), Employees Only, on the lower East Side. My clients love the place, so crazy and, maybe weirdly (no) religiously so I'm always there. Ya you love New York! |
Good one rasmcasm. I luv NY. I'll look this bar up next trip. I'll buy you a drink (doesn't have to be lemonade). Wear your name tag so I'll recognize you.
