100% bonus when you buy, gift, or transfer miles

http://www.delta.com/skymiles/buy_tr...uy_gift_offer/

Seems like a decent deal to buy miles at just over 1 c with the transfer option.

Plus tax, plus 30.00 processing fee. What's the point of accumulating miles if they put so many rules in place to make it so difficult to use? Oh yeah, win for Delta, customer loses again.

Seems like a horrible deal to me since SkyMiles are no longer worth more than 1 cpm.

If transfer max 150k, get 300k...is my math correct? 1500 + 30 + tax for 300,000miles.

The purchase rate with tax appears to be 1.8 cpm by my calculations. US is selling miles on a 100% bonus promo right now at under 1.5 cpm, and those miles can be redeemed for international F on *A carriers (except much of the SQ fleet). (While US's website is horrible for booking, CO, AC, and ANA offer useful engines for checking availability. Way better than anything available to SkyTeam.) Unless you need to top up a balance, I'd shy away from buying DL miles after yesterday's "enhancement".

60,000 miles is $2,100 + $30 fee
This $2,030 for 120,000 miles.

Not bad if you can use them. MSP-JNB is 250,000 miles in J or $7,700.

Not really... 150k of the miles were already yours, so it's still only 1500 + 30 + tax for 150,000 miles.

So I can buy X miles for X*0.035*1.075 = 0.037625X

If I use my $200 platinum credit, X ~ 5.3k miles and I get 10.6k out of it?

Not a bad deal if I can actually get the credit for it.

I travel to LAS a few times per year and get a business RT for 45k. 1 cpm on 45k is $450 and you often can't even get economy for that.

Question regarding Transfer miles

Is it possible to transfer miles into another Delta account owned by yourself. I have two Delta accounts - one of which is OLD and I completely forgot about it and I haven't used it in a few years. It has a measly 6000-something miles in it. My regular Delta account has 90,000-something miles in it. Can I transfer the 90,000 miles (in 30,000 segments) to my older account? Or is that illegal?

Would appreciate help with this scenario as I do not want to transfer my newer Delta miles to an older account and lose it all.

No $30 fee for purchasing. The fee only applies to transfers.

its possible that a call would move the old mi to the new acct w/o a fee....

but getting an extra 90k might be desirable....then you could xfer them back & forth a few times to really get a ton....good luck....

Exactly. People often forget that the gifting account / member loses the use of the miles transferred to the recipient account.

Still, if you have some orphan miles sitting in a Skymiles account where it would take forever to accumulate to a useful amount (even when they never expire any more), then this is the time to transfer them to a useful account where they can do some good. That is what I did now with 2x 8000 miles sitting in my children's accounts who 2 out of 3 times fly on award tickets and hardly accumulate miles.

Phaenon Aug 10, 2011 11:57 am

you can always, always buy miles then redeem for gift cards, i think its cheaper, then turn around and pay for your ticket with those gift cards so in the end you are still earning more miles.

That's great news! Anyone else here value their miles less than 1 cent? Feel free to PM me.
