getting bumped on purpose?
First off I apologize for opening 2 threads in one day.I am flying from lga to memphis to lubbock currently in first (miles upgrade). This would be the last flight of the day. I heard chances are I would at least 400 dl dollars and a hotel for the night.what are the chances of getting such an offer? Should un do the upgrade for better chances of this happening?

August 19 check lga to lbb at 4 and something(only flight from lga at the time) I would get the flight number but am on my phone. About 12 seats left in coach(that you can choose to seat at) .I think its the last flight of the day so guess less people would bid.

As of right now it is 9's across the board and there is no way they would need to bump anybody...not that they would ever do that before the DOD anyway. BTW, you realize the seat map means nothing particularly if you are not elite. |
Most people pay for subscriptions to ExpertFlyer to check information on flight loads but you can also use FlightStats Travel Planning/Flight Availability to see load factors for free.
19 days out is way too early, especially for a Friday afternoon flight out of New York. You'd want to check the day before to see if you should get the airport early and volunteer your seat (if Y availability = 0).

Also, I'm kind of curious as to why you used miles to upgrade to F when MEM->LBB is an all-economy CRJ  |

I got steak and spagetti cold last time...

On another note, it appears that my flight Tuesday from DTW to GRB (5328) is 1 person overbooked (at least the DL agent told me that, then said "Whoops, wasn't supposed to tell you that"), but I'm seeing still 4 FC seats available. So I'm assuming that there are no other Gold or higher medallions, since they probably would've already gotten bumped at 2 days out. (It's an award flight, flying with non-medallion family, so little to no chance for me to be upgraded, but maybe bumped).
Can any other people see differently than I on that, and why she's telling me there's 1 person overbooked, with 4 FC seats and 1 coach seat showing available. |

Welcome to Flyertalk. Just wondering, is a flymanbeast anything like a manbearpig? |
There has gotta be a joke about the guy who flew first class from New York City to Texas tech....
|
I will also add that Bumps can never really be known for sure... WX and other cancellations can affect your chances either way as can SDCs...

I completely understand that bumps are never guaranteed, but I'm just curious why the agent "accidentally" told me the flight was overbooked by 1 person, but there's still 4 FC and 1 coach seat still showing on DL.dumb. Would there be 6 people that are booked without seat assignments?

p.s i dont want to open a new thread. is there anyway i can carry on tennis rackets(3 of them) ? i know the crj is a very small plane...

No-shows, misconnects, etc. make it a very fluid situation. I was just monitoring a flight that I was thinking of taking and it had been overbooked a good bit; however, all revenue standbys plus a decent number of nonrevs cleared. |
With three checked bags you do not want to be bumped. Frankly the staff will most likely check the number of bags and determine you are not appropriate for the bump. Volunteering to bump is best if you have no checked bags.

I got the same cold the last time I flew. The steak came out in one hard honk, but, for the spaghetti, they had to strain my sinuses through a colander. |

I don't know about that - -I've done it many times, and the advantage is that when you finally get to your destination, you go straight to the baggage office and pick them up, and you are out of the terminal before the baggage carousel even starts cranking up (mind carefully your luggage receipts so you know where they are; I tear them off as soon as I get them, and put them in a regular spot in my wallet). |

Been bumped many times and my bags have ALWAYS been checked...might be different if international though... |

Internationally they have positive bag match, so bumping you with checked bags is a big PITA. |

As, pardon the pun, trashy as this sounds, I always keep a 13 gallon bag in my suitcase just in case, although I usually have a backpack or duffle bag also stashed in there. I have a coworker who keeps a Bloomingdales Big Brown Bag in her suitcase for the same reason. She thinks it's classier than my Hefty. |
Please tell me that finance is not your major.
I have a novel idea for a high flying college person such as yourself. LIE ! Tell your frathole buddies that you flew first class. You wouldn't worry about such goofy things if you didn't believe the same type lies they're telling you. I thought I was pretty snazzy with a new Craig eight track player and a new Edelbrock intake. I can spot a newly minted upgraded flyer on the Atlanta to Charlotte 44 minute flight by how much electronics they position and set up with headphones, etc. We spend more time taxiing than flying. tennis anyone ? |

I don't think the OP is bragging. As someone else mentioned, his use of miles to get rid of bag fees isn't a bad idea. His (or her) mention of being in first class was incidental, as his question pertains to VDBs. |

The seat map all by itself is a poor indicator of the flight's capacity. The agent is more reliable. |
I would put my rackets in the tennis bag.Now in all flights it has been ok but i know the cj is a very very small plane.I could not fit a small bag in it before.so how would i fit a tennis bag in it?

|
4 seats left on the first flight, 7 left on the second and I am still able to pull up seats for sale on Delta.
First is actually full, but there are still seats for sale in economy. |
Are we both looking on the same flight? 1473
