It's revenue management. If they find they're not able to fill the seats by pricing mid-range far out, low closer in, and high at the last minute, they'll offer more seats at lower fares farther out. They've got some smart people working on pricing, and so I don't expect they'll really be losing passengers.

For what it's worth, UA/CO is (per Kayak) charging $1793 for this routing. Every airline other than AA is charging significantly more than $1000. Don't know why AA's fare is so low.

I have flown quite a few and DL is best in Y in my experience. I would put CO/UA next, then AA, then US (I'd rather drive/bus/train/boat than US). I didn't include AirTran or Southwest as they are useless to me. Foo |

Economy comes in two flavors: bad and worse. Cramped seats, crowded cabins, marginal food, and invisible flight attendants--across airlines. Sometimes you get neighbors who are so large that they invade your cramped space, or they carry infants in their laps--across airlines. Yes, people have the right to fly with their infant children. Kids are great, but not screaming for hours next to you. The only saving grace is AVOD. The cost of a Biz class ticket is increasing at an exponential rate--across airlines. |
