SkyMiles Subscriptions (not!)
 

Despite three requests to cancel after waiting in excess of 12 weeks the magazine arrived. I ordered directly via The Economist after waiting in excess of 12 weeks. And to my surprise the magazine arrived in duplicate last week. A call to The Economist customer service confirmed the SkyMiles Subscription was in fact cancelled and no further duplicates would be received. So no magazine in a reasonable time and no miles! Stay clear of SkyMiles Subscriptions. The Economist on the other hand is excellent reading on a long flight.

Sorry it did not work out for you. I got the economist with miles and had no problems. Agree that it's a good read.

I have ordered three subscriptions of The Economist per year for the last three years and have had no problems. Magazines arrived promptly and at almost 4 cpm it is a great redemption option.

If you have an iPad The Economist has a wonderful app!

ordered on Feb 27, 2011 and received first magazine July 6, 2011; received first magazine July 6, 2011 after cancelling order due to lack of delivery.

I ordered Fortune with Skymiles and received within about 6 weeks.

Also ordered Travel & Leisure about 4 weeks ago with miles, but I'm still waiting on that one.

So if this works and is a good value, can one renew one's Economist subscription (IMHO the best read of any magazine - perfect read in-flight on the iphone app) with SkyMiles, or does it only work for new subs?

I think you need to do a new subscription each year. But if you time it correctly you shouldn't have much, if any, overlap.

I've had issues with it as well - though, I've had issues with UA and AA magazines too.
