This happens all the time. It shows just how incompetent IT at DL is.

Is it new that FCM offers can quote prices in miles? I'm being given an offer for $74.18 or 6,900 miles on PHL-BOS.

They announced they were going to start doing this a while back. I haven't seen it myself but I assume others have.

It's interesting that they are pricing them at >1 CPM. Technically it all balances out (since the $74 also nets you 350-800 SkyMiles depending on status) but still interesting. Wonder if they are doing A/B testing on that to see whether or not it induces extra purchase ("I'm getting a deal!")

The price had been the same, but I had not seen the miles option until my upgrade on the outbound BOS-PHL cleared this morning. I'm expecting the return should clear later tonight, so maybe it's one last effort to sell it to clear some mileage liability before they give it away.

Considering you have silver status I would pay the $191 for first-class between San Francisco and Minneapolis. There's no way you will ever get that upgrade.

When you buy the upgrade with miles, do you still get the 150% premium-cabin MQM bonus?

doubtful; it'll probably process as a non-refundable "seating upgrade" and they won't actually reissue the ticket into G/A/P ... which also means you won't have the "only-need-an-available-front-cabin-seat" SDC benefit either

not necessarily ... I had this bite me last week ... noticed it within a couple hours (when I <facepalm> realized I'd actually applied it on the return flight instead of the outbound ); called the PM line and was able to get it reversed

Yes you do. Buying an upgrade while purchasing (shown on the Trip Summary page) or after you’ve purchased (in My Trips) will earn you the bonus MQMs. This is regardless if you use cash or miles to upgrade. If you are upgrading from an award ticket, then you will not earn the bonus MQMs as you are still on an award ticket.

Buying an upgrade during the check-in process will NOT earn you the bonus MQMs.

As a DM, I’m probably 90% on the comp upgrades both ways. Of course on a 319, the odds are lower than an RJ.

Yeah my odds aren't looking good. Only two seats left, but I have a bulkhead C+ seat so it's fine.

The only time I've sat in economy on this route is when I got involuntarily downgraded from an upgrade. $200 in my pocket so it was a good deal.

$385 or 35900 miles upgrade to F for SJC-ATL on a 737-900. Original Y ticket was around $400.
