What is the fate of Deltas 747?
I read in another thread that Delta will be returning 747's as they come off of lease. It don't think they have any new long haul orders aside from the 787 that were deferred.
How long are the leases on their existing 747 fleet? Do they have some that are parked or does this mean there is going to be a long haul capacity reduction?

Possibly it means they will start using more fuel-efficient planes on long-haul routes, like the 777 and 787. Which is a good thing.
2020 sounds like a long time from now but it's only 8.5 years away.

There's no value in discussion of 744 fleet plans without a forecast of oil prices. Anyone highly skilled in that isn't wasting his time on FT.

Ship 6314 is currently en route to Marana from Detroit. It will be stored for about a year. 6311 and 6312 are set to be returned to their lessors in August and November 2012.
Currently the plan is to have 15 744's in rotations. Fleet will go down to 14 after 2012.
Also...the first DC-9-50 goes to Arizona tomorrow.

I will. The 900's are great, especially 1A. The DC-9's are ratty, disgusting, spiteful things. They're older than half the people flying on them. I know they are built like bricks and still have usable life remaining, but that doesn't mean DL shouldn't send them to the desert where they belong.

We're OT, but getting rid of any airplane with an FC cabin is . CR7s and CR9s are fine, but CR1s and CR2s (which have been used as subs on some DC-9 routes in the past) just plane suck.

747 is still the best ride in the fleet -- if you are riding up above in WBC (sorry, "BE"), that is.
