upgrade

I bought tix on cheap tickets.com from KUL-CDG-PIT. KUL-CDG is on Malaysian. CDG-PIT is on Delta, I am a Delta Silver, and also hold an AMEX platinum Delta card. Do I get an automatic upgrade on the CDG-PIT flight or do I have to sweet talk the GA? I know Malaysian is probably out as I only get miles on Delta with them, they do not honour status on Delta. I then have PIT-MSP and on my reservation and it shows upgrade requested so I am fine there, but it is domestic. I then fly MSP-AMS on Delta and AMS-KUL on KLM. Am I eligible for an upgrade on either of those flights?
The reason I ask is that I was able to call Delta from Burma where I live, itself a miracle, and was told that automatic upgrades are only for domestic flights. I should also note that all of these flights are on the same ticket.

Surely you jest! Welcome to FT, btw.

Upgrades on international flights are only via miles or SWUs, and as an FO, you won't have any SWUs. To upgrade with miles, you need to have booked a Y, B, or M fare, which your cheap ticket will not be. I guess keep your fingers crossed for an upgrade on PIT-MSP, but expect to sit in Y on all your flights.

Yes, DL does operate CDG-PIT nonstop. I flew it a few months ago.

Why don't you think so? Delta has been serving PIT/CDG ever since US downsized their PIT operations. DL 204 outbound and DL 205 inbound on a 757-200. Daily IIRC.

The agent is right... only the PIT-MSP segment will be eligible for upgrades. As others have mentioned, the only way to get international upgrades is to buy an expensive Y, B, or M fare and upgrade using SWUs (only for Plats and Diamonds) or miles. Or sweet talk the GA (but don't get your hopes up).
