Where are you coming from? Considering that most of MSP's international destinations are North American destinations with U.S. Customs pre-clearance facilities, it's possible that you will actually clear customs before coming to MSP. In that case, you'll just connect as if it were a domestic flight; meaning that 90 minutes is more than enough time.

I'll be flying in from Amsterdam. If I miss my connection in MSP I will probably be stuck there for the night, which is why I am exploring options should my AMS flight be late.

Given the AMS-MSP flight and onward connection is governed under EU rules applicable for flight delays and cancellations (even if the ticketed itinerary sold originates with a non-European location), most probably such delay will require DL to re-accommodate you on the next flight and provide for you in the manner applicable for the right to care in such circumstances where you get stuck in MSP overnight: hotel + food + communication facility at DL's expense. That said, DL may still try to get away with avoiding its responsibilites under the law governing the trip.

There are some MSP-AMS flights where baggage claim is very, very slow due to CBP running rather extensive checks on all baggage checked by passengers. Even in such circumstances 90 minutes is usually more than enough time for the passenger to get to the scheduled flight -- however, if the delay to the gate is 45 minutes on a 90 minute scheduled transit time, that kind of process when having checked luggage may result in cutting it close enough to fail to make it to the gate before the flight is closed.
