DL 1855 Bin Wars...

ATL-LAX on a 752 yesterday...

The front two rows of F were taking forever to get out of the aisle and stow their stuff. 3C sees no bin space above his seat and puts two backpacks in the bin on the other side of the aisle. 3A/B were right in front of me and started ragging at the guy from back in the line. When they got to their seat 3B (hubby) takes the two backpacks out of the bin and kind of tosses them at 3C, saying something I couldn't hear. For some reason, 3C took it without nailing the guy in the schnozz. 3C then puts both backpacks (again) above 4A/B. I lost interest at that point, but didn't hear any fuss when 4A/B showed up. While I disagree with the guy putting both of his carry ons in the overhead, I would not have taken that abuse from the other guy. One of us (or both) would have been removed from the plane.

Another example of why I think they should remove overhead bins from all aircraft!!! ^

I think they should not charge to check a reasonable amount of bags (yes i know this situation was a FC seat).

DCA-ATL this week. FC bins are full. Woman gets on and politely asks whether the owner of two small bags in the overhead bin would mind putting them under the seat. Gentleman in 1B says the bags are his, and no, he won't put them under the seat. She says, "Oh, I see, you're in the bulkhead," and moves on looking for a bin. He loudly informs his neighbor (and the rest of the cabin) that he wouldn't put them under his seat even if he could. It's his space, and she has some nerve asking him to move his bags! "She's probably back in 31B and wants to take my space!" In fact, the woman was seated in the bulkhead seat across from him, and his bags were in the bin immediately over her seat. She didn't respond to his tirade, but found another space for her bags. Why was this "gentleman" so up in arms over a simple request, and what's so offensive about being asked to put small bags under the seat?

So, I have to ask a question, Why would you want to put your bag directly over your seat where you can't keep an eye on it?
Wouldn't you want to put it directly across the aisle from you so if someone was in the bin, you could see what they are doing?

That's what I generally do.

I do, too, but I learned long ago that everyone is not exactly like me. Different strokes and all that...

It's probably too much to ask for people to be polite, yeah?

I am usually in 1B and on several of the 757s and 320s there is Oxygen in the 1B bin. Tuesday I had a minor incident when I put my ONE bag (small TUMI LT bag) in the bin directly across. The jerk who was in 1C was, like this guy, just in the door so he saw me put the bag there. As he approached the seat he looks at me and says "thanks for stealing my overhead space". I was in no mood and as I was about to say something the FA chewed the guy out. She said "there is plenty of space and you DO NOT get the space over your seat reserved." BTW, There was plenty of room in that bin and he just put his bag up and was quiet the whole flight. I think he actually believes there is "assigned seating" for overhead bags. What a DB.

I think the TSA needs to be made aware of the threat of Bin Loadin'

:D

Well played Sir.

I find that usually when there's a shortage of bin space in FC it's because the FAs working coach have kindly put their three pieces each in the FC bins. This drives me crazy.

Recently when in 1A on a CRJ-900, as I was putting my legal bag into the bin over 1BC, one of those passengers called over the FA to ask if I was allowed to use the bin across from my seat rather than the mini-shelf over my own seat. I thought this was strange as the 1BC occupants didn't need any more bin space for their stuff. Of course the FA said no problem.

Reminds me of my flight from SLC to TUL in November and I was guzzling drinks in the SC so I didn't board in Zone 1. 2CD had already seated, and bin space in 2AB was full of crew luggage. As I put my carryon in the 2CD bin space, the "gentleman"/DB sitting in 2C curtly advised me that the bin space "is NOT for YOU - you need to find space in the back". I looked at the man and in my most obnoxious NY accent said "Don't f*** with me a**h***" and plopped down into 2B. When 2A showed up, I politely helped her put her carryon in 2CD while glaring at 2C. She ended up being from NY as well and we proceeded to play the name game and talk mad-s*** about Tulsa and how awful it was that we had to go visit our families in such a horrible city. 2CD didn't crack a peep the whole flight.

It wasn't my finest moment, but I was in no mood to put up with BS from some DB from Tulsa.
