AMEX Reserve 15k MQM Threshold Bonus - Redeem Now or Next year ?

I just passed my $60k spending threshold on my AMEX Reserve card. I will already be rolling over to Diamond for 2012 if there is a rollover.

Are there any pros or cons of taking the extra 15K MQM before year end or should I do it in January 2011?

On face value I am not sure if it really matters as I will only be acruing mies for 2013 Status if there is a rollover again - I currently am rolling over >125k MQM miles to 2011 for an instant 2012 Diamond status.

Thanks for your input.

There is no advantage to waiting. Hopefully for your sake rollover will continue

only downside risk to waiting (no rollover from 2011->2012 is possible though unlikely as it has not been announced and we are 10 days away from new earning year).

A downside is that you could decide later that you would prefer to gift those MQMs to someone else.

I've never really noticed, when do they typically announce this stuff anyway? I usually wait until after my end-of-the-year vacation to look up any changes...

Just shy of 60k

________
I am about 5K away from 60k spending threshold, but would prefer to take the additional 15k MQM in 2011 as opposed to 2010. If I spend the extra 5k before 12/31/10, can I wait to accept the 15k MQM bonus until January 2011 or will it automatically be deposited into 2010 regardless of when I accept it?

I was under the impression that regardless of when the MQM bonus will be deposited it'll go towards the current year. Therefore, even if it posts in 2011, it'll still have an activity date of 2010.

+1

It will make no difference other than when you actually see the MQMs in your account. Either way, they'll count towards your 2010 total and should add to any rollover for which you qualify.

And OP, if you decide you don't really want/need them, many of us would gladly accept your Christmas gift
