And you also earn double miles on the Delta.com purchase price of the miles themselves, so for $1680 you get 60,000 + 60,000 + 1,680 + 1,680 = 123,360 miles for 1.36 cents per miles or $.0136 if you prefer it that way.
Must use Delta AMEX Card for bonus.

Does anyone know how these transactions post on the credit card statement? I have $200 in incidentals to spend by December 31 on my business platinum. I am trying to see if buying miles qualifies for the rebate.

I recently got a new delta AMEX card last month, and got the 35K bonus miles from *1 and *2 below, I would like to know if I can get $100 back with the purchase of this pomotion (100% bonus on purchased miles)?
Earn 20,000 bonus miles with your first purchase*1
Earn another 15,000 bonus miles when you spend $1,000 in three months*2
And get $100 cash back when you make a Delta purchase*3
*3. Cardmember must charge a Delta purchase to their Gold Delta SkyMiles® Credit Card within the first six months of Cardmembership. One $100 statement credit will be issued for the first Delta purchase made with the Card. Purchase must be made directly through Delta. Credit issued as a Cardmember statement credit approximately 8-12 weeks after your first Delta purchase. To receive statement credit, account must be in good standing and not in default

I am wondering if this can be used to as a "Delta purchase of $200 or more" to receive the $50 eCert (targeted offer). If so, that may make this worth doing...

I don't think your case qualifies. Based on the information below, it seems you need to purchase a delta flight (rather than purchasing miles) in order to be eligible for the $50 e-cert,
Receive a $50 Delta eCert good towards qualifying air travel in 2011 with a Delta purchase. First register any eligible American Express® Card between December 1, 2010 and January 15, 2011. Then make a single Delta ticket purchase of $200 or more with your registered Card by January 15, 2011 for travel that must be completed by March 31, 2011. A unique promo code will be mailed to you 6-8 weeks after the promotion to redeem for your $50 Delta eCert good towards future travel on Delta Air Lines. You will need a Delta SkyMiles number to register. Don’t have one? Simply visit delta.com/skymilesenrollment/landing.action to get one--it's free, easy and opens up a world of travel opportunities.

Yes, 60,000 miles plus 60,000 miles (bonus) for $1680.00. Not bad IF you have a specific premium and/or international flight you plan to take.

I called Amex and asked them directly if it would cover buying, sharing, gifting miles and was told that it would not. Bummer!
