You know that it will not be as comfortable and as welcoming as the old facility. I really will be disappointed if the put the agents out front in a lobby as they have in so many of the new clubs.

Even at a place like ATL, I'd rather have a quick express SkyClub in some of those terminals than have to make the long trek up an elevator or stairs, down a long hallway and into an overly crowded room with a tiny food stand (cough B SkyClub cough). In a lot of the SCs in the system, they could probably get away with putting an express stand in the lobby of the existing club so they didn't need to worry about finding airport real estate.

It will be interesting to see how they implement this new temporary club because the majority of the work in the terminal, including raising the ceiling and adding a new second floor, is happening right where the current Sky Club location is. Will the temporary space literally be in the middle of a construction zone?
That said, the renovation is much needed and will be great when completed in a few years. Terminal 2 will finally be connected airside with Terminals 1 and 3 (also being rebuilt) which will add a lot more space to move around in an otherwise very cramped Terminal 2.

I haven't seen any plans for it so no, I actually do NOT know it will be less comfortable or welcoming. The agents at FLL are all super friendly though, so I have no doubt they will make me feel welcome, regardless of where their desk is located in the future sky club.

I know I've told the story before but last year as Irma was bearing down, I bought a last minute ticket for what would have been the last flight out of FLL. I arrived to the airport way early, went straight to the SkyClub and asked them if they could get me on the flight currently boarding and they had a ticket printed within 60 seconds and I was on the plane 5 minutes later.
There was so much traffic in the region that ATC was implementing a 40 mile cushion between departing flights so flights were taking off at a pace of about 1 every 10 minutes so that flight ended up sitting on the tarmac for over three hours before finally getting out to ATL. Even with the delay, I still made my connecting flight. The flight I was originally scheduled for did end up getting out, but so late that I would have been stranded in ATL overnight.

Stopped by there late afternoon yesterday and the opening day celebration included all of the Moet & Chandon you wanted.
The capacity is somewhat less than the old facility and although the space was used more efficiently, the agents said that it was very crowded at the usual peak hours earlier in the day. At 430PM, though, it was quite comfortable and not at all crowded.
There essentially are two rooms, one large rectangular space filled with chairs lined up in tight rows and one long corridor-type space with the food service area on the right and tables set up along the left. even without windows, the lighting is very good so unless you need to watch the airplanes come and go, sitting there is pleasant enough. At the end of this corridor, a right turn brings you to the same restrooms that were at the old club. No change there.
The agents are, as per the new Delta custom, relegated to a vestibule at the entrance and as she changed my seat for me, Terry said that there definitely was a loss of the intimacy that was there when the counter was right in the room, as at the old club. But they were happy to be back and so were we.

We will be hanging around FLL for about 6 hours on the day before Thanksgiving. We aren't very familiar with FLL. I was planning to take advantage of the Sky Lounge, but now I am thinking it will be a zoo on that day. Does anyone have a suggestion for a Plan B?

The airport is not far from the beach, I would get out of there and go eat, take a walk, etc.

I *love* the new SC at FLL. I liked the old one just fine, didn't think there was anything wrong with it.. but I love the new bar and it seems like there's more available seating. The ambiance is great too.
And I agree with the posts about the agents at SC FLL. I fly in/out of FLL about once a month, and every time they're so nice and welcoming. Recently, I became somewhat temporarily disabled due to a leg injury, and they went out of their way to make sure I got to the gate and had enough room for my leg. *SO* awesome, and I'll be back on Wednesday for the Thanksgiving holiday and my surgery.
The Patriot/Red Sox fan is a hoot whenever Boston's not winning the World Series.

The Bahstan accent belongs to Terry who often is off the charts rooting for the Pats during football season. I must admit that my team spoiled her fun a couple of times over the years we have known each other and we still laugh about how bad the Giants have become. Unfortunately I did not get through there during the World Series and am sure I missed a lot more laughs.
