Checking in for a delayed internation flight?
 

My flight today SYD-LAX has been delayed 10 hours. I've been rebooked on connecting flights, upgrades processed and have received numerous emails alerting me to the delay. The problem? I am being advised to check in for the original flight time. I am not able to check in online or through my mobile. So checking in would require going to the airport 12 hours before the estimated departure.

Any alternatives?

You are required to check in and be present at the original flight time in case things change.

I've received email from the medallion desk - very prompt. So I can wander Sydney for the afternoon instead of napping at the Virgin lounge.

"I am sorry you are unable to check in online, I have looked into why and
it appears there is an error we are unable to resolve at this time. You
will need to check in at the Sydney airport. You may check in as if the
flight is departing at 930 pm local Sydney time. I am sorry for any
inconvenience this delay has caused."

Im curious where your aircraft is coming from since LAX-SYD has been canceled.

Delayed DL 17 on 10 November was scheduled to depart LAX 10:45 pm, actually departed LAX 11 November at 10:35 am, estimated arriving SYD 12 November 8:31 pm - approx 12 hours late (and approx 5 hours from now).

11 November DL 17 is canceled.
