The 747 will never win in whY. Its a horrible product. If its the 772ER BE in question, I still prefer the recliners over the WBC space pods (though this is more often debated). If its the 777LR BE with the lie flat seats, the 777LR wins without a doubt.

Just flew JFK-TLV and TLV-ATL on the 747 and 777LR.
Flew upper deck on the 747 (seats 73A and 73B which are the best on that aircraft in terms of privacy and space).
Returned on the 777LR in 4D and 5D.
Prefer the fully flat-bed seats on the 77L for a good night's sleep, but as many have said, the 747 WBC seats for relaxing & having a conversation with a traveling companion.
Don't fly Y on the 747. I did ATL-NRT last year and it was a rough one. Though I took a peek into Y on the 747 to TLV and it appeared the old NW seats had been replaced with Delta leather seats. Has anyone else seen this?

$1100 for Y
$3500 for J
i have no status, miles, or upgrades
Which would you choose?
I'm thinking doing the ATL-TLV 777 in Y.

I agree with others. If in Y, 777>>>747. If in J, there's not too much difference in my opinion, and the 747 is unique if you can get seats on the upper deck or in row 1 (the view from 1 is pretty cool!).

I have only flown BE in both the 747 and 777LR - the 777 cannot be beat for comfort - and it's fun to see how much the wings flex upwards in flight too.
Although I love the 747 upper deck - the 747LR cannot be beaten with the lie flat seats.

There is also a different type passenger base from JFK than from Atlanta. I recently flew JFK-TLV and TLV Atlanta, and found a world of difference in coach. There are alot of very religous people on the JFK flights. Becasue of this, there are more issues on boarding, and less quiet during the flight. Based on Judicial law, a Hassidic man cannot sit next to a woman who is not his wife. As they board, if they are seated next to a woman, passengers have to be re-seated. There are overhead storage issues due to the size packages brought onboard. As a non-orthodox Jewish person, I found the entire process facinating to watch. During the flight, based on religous teachings, men gather at sun rise and sunset to pray. They congregate in nooks all over the plane.
On the Atlanta flight, there were far fewer religous people, and a more typical flying environment. I don't know that one is better than the other, but they are different.
