Delta Changed Our Seat Assignment

Two days until we leave on our trip to Hawaii. I just checked our itinerary (as I've been doing daily for the past couple weeks) and Delta changed our seat assignments from MCO to ATL. Husband and I had been seated next to each other (2A&B), now I'm 2A and he's 4A.

Should I call Delta or wait till Friday morning at the gate. I checked the seat map and there are only 2 FC seats left, they're not near our seats nor are they together. It's flight 1618.

This stinks that our long awaited trip to Hawaii starts off not being able to sit together! What should I do?

Thanks all!

FAM? Seat 2B is a seat to stay away from.

Husband and wife flying together. We've had these seats assigned since August. I didn't see anything on Seat Guru that indicates a problem with 2B. Why do you say that? They gave 2B to someone else because the seat chart does not show as available.

My main complaint is that they split us up so we can't sit together.

FAM = Federal Air Marshall

Call Delta and get seated next to each other.

Welcome to Flyertalk!

Hi,

What USAF_Pride is referring to is the preference that Air Marshalls have for seat 2B. Thus, it is a seat to avoid if you don't want to suddenly be bumped out of it.

Cheers,

Ok, now I understand!

The interesting part about this is that Delta originally assigned us to those seats when we had to make some changes to our award travel itinerary. We did not pick them, they gave them to us and we figured they'd be fine. You would think they would not assign two people traveling together to those seats.

I shall call them. Thanks for your help!

they probably assigned them because they were available at the time.... Thinking ahead is a bit too logical for a lot of people:)

Just got off the phone with Delta. They are very sorry but unfortunately there is nothing left together on that flight. Supposedly they are not given information about where the FAM sits as she was very confused as to why they would have switched the seats. I told her what I learned from all of you and she thought that was very interesting!

Anyways, she's putting a note in our record so maybe something can be switched at the gate. She did check with a supervisor about putting us on a different flight but everything is booked. All of the upgrades must have gone through overnight. For our inconvenience we each are receiving 2,500 miles to our account. Is that the going rate for a mix-up like this?

If seat 4B on flt 1618 MCO to ATL Fri 11/05 is reading this, would you mind changing to 2A :) ?

You're best off asking an aisle to move to another aisle (or window to another window). You'll probably be fine with that once you get on the plane.

One would think that IF Delta had to move a passenger from 2B for a FAM that they would be smart enough to move them to another aisle. I too stay away from 2B (and 2C). As for being "fine" - asking someone to trade an aisle for a window is never a guarantee - some people are pretty possesive about their seats.

I'm a window bulkhead flier and I won't give it up - I pay to sit upfront and I pick the seat - it's not a free upgrade. A few weeks ago a couple (BFU) get 1B and 1C - across the aisle from each other - he wants to sit in my seat. Sorry - no. I got the "you're kidding, right?" retort. The guy in 1D didn't want to switch either - who can blame him - he'd have to sit next to me.

You can ask, but do so nicely (no guilt tripping - "my wife and I are going to reconnect on a second honeymoon and can't stand to be apart for even 90 minutes....") and be prepared to get a no answer.

As stated, you can ask someone to switch, but if they choose not to, just accept it politely. This is only a very small part of your flight and I wouldnt' worry too much about not sitting together from MCO to ATL. Now if it were the ATL to HNL flight, that's another story.

I'm GM and my wife has no status. With companion upgrades, we almost always get assigned two window seats because the aisle seats are full by the time they clear companions. We've never had a problem just asking people if they mind switching seats while on-board.

Villager 515 Nov 3, 2010 8:44 am

We'll probably end up sitting separately and it's not the end of the world. The only person we could switch with is the person next to my husband in 4B because they took my husband's aisle seat and put him in a window seat. Obviously the FAM in 2B next to me isn't going to change. It's just a little aggrevating that this happens at the last minute. For weeks I've been looking at this seat map and we were the only two occupied seats in FC. Everything was wide open. Could have changed them but we didn't know there would be a problem.

And yes, we will certainly be polite. If the GA can't do anything to seat us together, I'm not going to ask people to start moving. Just suck it up and look forward to ATL-HNL portion of our trip!

It's a shame that Delta has had yet another premium class seat stolen by the federal government at great inconvenience to valuable customers. :td:

Can always ask the FAM to move. :D
