This Is How Much I Hate the 747...
...That I am rearranging my Asia trip so I can fly from DTW to ICN on the 777, then onward to NRT on the 757, then to PVG on an A330, then the 777 back to DTW from PVG. All just to avoid the dated, crappy 747s with no AVOD. Sad that when I have Delta's domestic hub to Asia I have to avoid any non-stops to their Asian hub because the planes suck so bad.

I am happy with my routing. Just I can't stand the 747 with no AVOD. It makes for a very long DTW-NRT flight. After the 747, the 767-300 with no AVOD is my next least favorite plane. Try sitting on there from AMM-JFK when you take off at 1:20 a.m. for 12 hours. Rough.

Sure, but this was specifically aimed at the 744... Just providing alternatives.
I have flown the 744 from DTW-KIX and from NRT-BKK. Neither were overly great, but I grew up on KL versions of these birds between AMS-JFK in the 80s and early 90s. Maybe I'm just used to it.
The A330 is a nice alternative.

the 777s are vastly superior to the 747s, no matter what the class. At least DL is going to install proper business class seating in the 747s and get rid of the miserable Mimbari beds

Personally, I can sleep very well in the 747s and A330s "Minbari-style beds," but can't in the super uncomfrotable ones in 777s "flat-bed" BE (they are too short, and the head rest portion is so narrow that can't support head or pillow well, and also narrow at the other end for the feet also - really hard to sleep on those due to the odd and un-ergonomically designed shape of seat that only works for below average height people, if anyone, but certainly not for me (5'11"); IMO that poor design is just a lot of waste of space).
