If coach isn't oversold, there's almost zero chance of getting an op-up.
If coach is oversold and business isn't, you may have an outside shot if you have elite status (especially if you aren't holding a rock-bottom fare).
If this is the case, you can "offer" the gate agent to give up your seat in coach to move to BE if they need it for other passengers...

Informal talk, usually among men, occurring in a public place: “the street corner, the rum shop, the crossroads, wherever hanging out, or... blagging, takes place”

DUB used to be a great city for me to get op ups to BE.
It used to be possible to move more freely between terminals so one could fly into DUB on a connecting flight and then simply turn up at the gate for the DL flight. That often meant that my seat allocation had already been given away and I was the pleased recipient of a BE boarding card. Sometimes I simply avoided having a seat allocation when the flight was Y0. On days when the flight was continuing to SNN it was even possible to get an op up simply because there were not enough Y seats DUB-SNN.
It is harder to move between terminal buildings now but DUB is still not a bad city for a PM booked into an oversold Y cabin.

1. An expensive suit for a man/a designer dress for a woman.
2. Get married the night before and inform the TA or GA that you are going on a honeymoon. (this is reported to be a favorite upgrade request story).
3. Tell the same TA or GA that you control the travel budget at a huge corp and if get this one upgrade, all that business will come their way.
or
A. You could just simply pay for business/first (reported to work 100% of the time)
BTW, 1, 2 or 3 -
A - ^

I guess an FT member who tells tall tales in order to score upgrades etc. might be a Frequent Blagger.
Some people think this derives from French blaguer .
Other forms I can think of are:
Blag
Blagging
Blag artist
Blagger

Otherwise no chance, And i can bull.... for Ireland!!
If you are flying before the end of the year, I've got six Drinks coupons worth $30. You are welcome to them
This website changed bullsh*t to bull.... automatically!!

DL to Europe - Upgrade Chances???
Hello FTers -
I am DL Platinum and planning for trip from NYC to Rome next week.
Website states upgrades not avaliable to EU. What are my chances of getting upgraded?
Do I just request to standby at the airport?
Would I have to burn one of those nice PMU coupons I am hoarding to sit up front?
I hate AF and dont believe they would upgrade in spite of SkyTeam status. Is this correct?
Any advice would be very much appreciated!

What do you mean when you say "Website states upgrades not available to EU."?
The only way to be SURE if an upgrade is available is to call SMS (their number is on the back of your SkyMiles card) and check availability for each itinerary you're interested in.
You can easily do a search for op-ups on here to read about other people's experiences with operational upgrades.
There are no day-of-flight upgrades on Delta.
You can use your PMUs to upgrade a Delta-coded flight operated by AF (assuming Z inventory is available).
You'll find you're going to get a lot of flaming for daring to refer to PMUs as "nice". Personally, I've found them somewhat useful. Others find them totally useless.

You need a certain fare class to use the PMUs. I think you need Y, B, K, or M class. These are much more expensive than the L, U, T fares that I usually book. What class is your itin?
