I would say MEM for the one-stop flights though depending on the times I would not rule out SLC because you would likely have the nice F/Y ratio of the 75X or if you are trying to build up miles try DCA-JFK-LAS-LAX

Getting an upgrade DCA-SLC is very tough.

CVG might be a decent option.

DCA-SLC on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Saturday might work.

As others have noted, SLC is very tough . However, your best bets are through CVG, I promise .

Cheers,

I fly this route a lot on Thursday and Friday nights. Was never upgraded as an FO. As a GM, I had pretty good luck through MSP and CVG (never missed the UG through CVG). As a PM, going through ATL became viable, and sometimes was the best option--if I could get on the 77L run, that was pretty sweet.

I find DCA-SLC really difficult to score the UG on. Also, the DCA-LAX nonstop used to be DL 8996/AS 5 or something--the codeshare was quietly dropped earlier this year.

Thanks all!
don't forget there's MIA, TPA, CMH, PHL, MCO, IND to name a few

as obnoxoid mentioned, AS still operates the DCA-LAX flight, but the DL codeshare disappeared earlier this year

CMH and IND are pretty good except for the CRJs out of DCA

CMH is a short flight; 45 minutes. IND is a bit longer, clocking in at a bit more then an hour. A CRJ is doable in that short amount of time.

I've done both, more times than I care to count, and survived ... just wanted to pre-empt the inevitable string of comments from CRJ-haters

When I was an FO, I was 2 for 2 for UGs through MEM, 2 for 6 in DTW and 1 for 8 in ATL. That one ATL UG was for ATL-BDL. Was typically over 40 on the UG wait list for the ATL-LAX flights.

Short answer; MEM.
