A320 - Row 1 or 4

Assuming all other things being equal would you take row 1 or row 4 on an A320 knowing that an A320 could easily be downgraded to an A319 and row 4 suddenly becomes a non-F seat?

I'm torn as I've got an upcoming flight that I'm currently in row 4 on but am a little nervous about the possibility of an equipment downgrade.

Delta shows not recent history of downgrading to an A319 on this flight but this still makes me nervous.

Row 1. Just got off of one and as I reported elsewhere...the seats are the BEST. They are wider (forgot how much from my NW days) and the 320 has the cut-out on the bulkhead so it is not cramped.

I would be (am) much more worried about the eight versions of 757-200 aircraft in the DL fleet than a last minute swap from A320 to A319. Not saying an A320-->A319 swap can't happen, but I've never seen it.

Agree, I'd go for row 1. I usually avoid row 1 as I have carry-ons, but the 320 has very generously sized bins. If it only had power at the seat, it would be perfect! ^

And AVOD ^

Agree on row 1 -- better whether they downgrade to a 319...or not.

AVOD is good as well, but if I have power I can get by without it.

The A319/A320s are pretty nice aircraft. I would have to say in general they are more comfortable than the Delta 738s. For me it is perhaps that wider aisle that makes it feel less cramped.

front first as a general rule

Always sit as far forward as possible. Generally served first (x on odd # flights with FEBO when observed, which is rarely) and off first (x 757 and A 330 when exiting from the back). Can't seem to shake the habit - just like to be up front!

You need new batteries. The A320 flights are not nearly long enough to drain my laptop or Ipod batteries.

I have flown ATL-ANC and do quite well with two fully-charged long-life batteries for my laptop. Never a problem for 6+ hour flights for my ipod.

Delta should really retrofit those aircraft if they're going to put them on flights that long. NWA never "needed" the power because they were at longest used on something like a MSP-SFO flight. But in the NWA days, the vast majority of the A319/A320 flights were used on routes of ~2 hours where a battery was typically sufficient.

For the most part, I'd say 1. For me personally, 4, but that's just because I'm 6' 7", and even with the little cutout, the bulkhead is too short for me.
