New Skyteam Member Aerolineas Argentina

Found this today on the Flying Blue group. It is in Dutch. If this is true I am not that impressed with these folks. Less than stellar performance and service.

According to sources, the contract could be signed by October. With Aerolineas signing, it would mean that Skyteam finally has a South-American partner.

Here is the item in English:

While Aerolineas does not have a great reputation their performance has reportedly improved during the last year or so.

I have a couple of flights in November that would be nice to get miles for!

mike_plat Sep 23, 2010 6:19 pm

I guess the next step will be Aerolineas Argentinas and GOL merging...

Oy vey, Skyteam continues to scrape the bottom of the barrel.

AR hasn't even figured out how to sell tickets on its own website yet! That and the fact that the carrier can't decide which airport to operate its regional hub out of (one week it's aeroparque, the next its ezeiza), what a comical mess!

WildUtah Sep 23, 2010 6:36 pm

It'd be nice to have a South American partner. Aeromexico and Delta do some limited SA service but it's all focused on ATL and MEX. This could mean lots more good connections.

It will be nice to now have a SkyTeam choice to BsAs from MIA.

Whether you may or may not get what you pay for, AR is generally the price leader on that itinerary so I guess many of us will be trying it out in the near future.

Unfortunately, it can take almost two years between the announcement of intentions to join ST and the "closing" or effective date. You will presumably not be able to earn miles until the final closing.

gsupstate Sep 23, 2010 7:17 pm

Maybe the ST affiliation will help them to improve their cities served and/or onboard service. Could still fly DL to BsAs, the connect on AR to other SA destinations.

How much loniger when DL will reinstating the codesharing with Aeromexico again? How much the times when FAA will lifted the category II restrictions? Do you consider that FAA will have a improving the safety properly? I wasn't capable rules in Mexico will have try to improvable the safety porperly.

While their reputation is spotty, it is mostly for canceling flights, and website issues. I will admit there have been improvements, and i bought 3 tickets on their website just a few days ago.

One route they are great for is EZE - AKL -SYD. They fly a 747 on the polar route, and its a nice way to connect down under.

rofly Sep 23, 2010 8:17 pm

I've seen what their planes look like on the outside (at Aeroparque), and it did not inspire confidence. That being said, I'd love to use miles instead of paying $400 for a 1.5 hour flight.

Panam Clipper Sep 23, 2010 8:26 pm

Were pieces falling off? What was it that gave you that negative impression?
