Initially I was worried about the grill being under the jetway (or under an airplane) or too close to jetfuel, but I don't think airport employees would be so careless or that the airport firefighters wouldn't have regulations concerning how such BBQs can be done. I also agree with the comments about the positive impact such activities have on employee morale (and hence productivity).
Now I'm jealous--it would be so cool to have a cookout on the tarmac.
I guess it's not possible to include this activity for one of our lunches during the ATL DO? It would be fun and also really neat to have people watching us do it from the terminal and from aircraft on the tarmac. Also, yummy.

I propose we grill those who disapprove, although we don't have to eat them unless they taste good.

^^^.. actually ^^ on the In & Out Burger... man I miss them... maybe some FT member coming to the Do in Oct can bring a load of them.. Even cold the next day I love them...

OK... I can resist anymore. I think it is great that the Ground Crew in ATL was having a Sunday afternoon BBQ. I wish I had known and I would have chipped in for the BBQ sauce and maybe some buns.
Is this a safety violation? I have no clue, but I am sure this takes place more than we are aware, and I haven't seen anything on the ATL news about an airport fire started by a runaway BBQ.
These ladies and gentlemen work hard around clock in all sorts of conditions. I believe that events like these can have an extremely positive impact on employee moral. Happy employees are more productive employees. More productive employees are likely to get your baggage on and off the plane quicker, the aircraft serviced in a timely fashion, resulting in better on-time departure and it ultimately benefits the customer... all from a little Sunday afternoon BBQ.

My gas grill is inches away from railing on my deck and it gets up to 750F. I don't fear a fire, as heat migrates upward.
I salute the employees out there grilling when they can, ATL has seen lots of storms of late and if they have some down time to put some meat to the fire...all the best to them. Enjoy some for me!

BBQ is the airport code for Barbuda Airport, Antigua and Barbuda.
