are all delta.com charges in USD?

In booking travel to US originating in Japan, I noticed that Delta.com prices tickets in Japanese yen. Would I pay foreign currency exchange fee for such a transaction?

I have the understanding that location of the company charging the amount determines whether foreign currency exchange fee applies. As Delta is headquartered in Atlanta, this logic would dictate that Delta.com purchases would not incur foreign currency exchange fee for US registered credit card.

Would Delta actually charge me in Japanese yen? Given the expensive price, the 3% foreign currency exchange fee comes out to a significant amount.

Thanks for your input!

I've looked into pricing recently for TLV-ATL roundtrip and it still had it in USD. I imagine it was because I was logged into my SM account.

Yup, that seems to be it. I just priced (for the heck of it) LHR-ATL before logging into my SM account, and it came up in GBP. Once logged into SM, it came up in USD.

In my experience, the initial price you see is in the currency of the country of origin. However, you will be billed in USD if you use a USD credit card, and you will be told the amount of the USD charge prior to finalizing the purchase.

My thanks to all the above for the informative replies. Did I mention that I hate paying foreign currency fees? ;) Yes, I need to apply for the Capitol One card!

I purchased 2 tickets on Delta.com for flight originating from SIN to the mainland USA two weeks ago. Just only noticed the charges on my CC. I was hit by the 3% foreign transaction fee charge!!

Found out that you have to call if you're buying tickets for flights originating from outside the US. If not, you will be hit by the foreign transaction fee.

I did the above mentioned too but noticed no differences in currencies when I purchased the tickets. It always showed the foreign currency.

Not true. I booked LHR-MSP-FAR-MSP-MSY-ATL-LGW earlier in the month and put it on my SkyPesos AmEx without getting hit with a foreign transaction fee. Don't know if the AmEx magically saved me from the fee, but I doubt it.

Maybe your Amex did it or maybe it's just a Delta.com thing for the originating location. The OP mentioned it was in Japanese Yen for Japan originating flights and mine was in Singapore Dollars for Singapore originating flights.

I tried the LHR-USA like you mentioned but only got it as GBP being both logged in or no logged in. But then I also tried the other poster's above for TLV - USA, and it showed up in USD price. By the way, I used a Chase Visa.

I guess the rule of thumb is if the price is in USD, you'll be fine from the foreign transaction fee. If it shows up in other currency, you might have to call and have it booked through the phone as the agents tell me they put in the price in USD.

Why can't it all just be done in USD over Delta.com website? It's not like I went to Delta.sg or something.

It looks like delta.dum strikes again. The ineptness of their IT department never ceases to amaze me. (Although, really, at this point I should stop being surprised and just assume the worst.) Computers are supposed to be deterministic, but I'm thinking that maybe they aren't in the case of delta.dum.

It depends on:

1. where you are logging into Delta.com from, US or another country.
2. origin/departing city.
3. logged in using your SM account or not and the payment card associated with your SM account.
