Waiting for upgrade from Class M: keep calling or just wait?

My wife and I each purchased, through a combination of cash and miles, international tickets (FOR-LAX, and SEA-FOR, each with a change of planes in ATL). We were immediately upgraded to Biz (Z) on all legs but ATL-LAX, for which we are still in Class M, and wailisted for "First (G)." That flight is on June 15. That's the only flight that has First. Others on planes that only have Biz (by my reading of Delta's site). Delta said we'd be informed via e-mail if we were upgraded and there was no telling when and if that might occur, though others said it's good to call once in a while. Today I did and they said it looked "good" since there were still 21of 24 FC seats available.

Questions:
1) Is there any point in my calling again?
2) Is there any way to gauge the status of such upgrades? I know it's not quite like the "upgrade" list showing on the monitor at the gate.

Thanks.

What happens if you don't get the upgrade? Are you going to cancel your trip or take a different flight?

I fail to see the value of repeatedly calling DL about this. Way to annoy the CSRs.

Sheez - way to be helpful...

Let me try to be actually helpful. I would wait until the 5/6 day window and ask then - you should be ahead of the all the Elites, but might want to be sure they look at before and after the computers do thier thing.

Just so that you are not unpleasantly surprised, on the ATL-LAX route, you're possibly better off on a flight with "Business" than a flight with "First". For all of those flights, the service level will be the same (domestic First class, which is nothing to get too excited about). However, the flights labeled business are labeled as such because they are the continuation of an international itinerary, sometimes operated with an internationally-configured business class cabin (777 or 763).

Regarding your question, it sounds as though you're on a waitlist for instrument (certificate/miles) upgrade availability. Unfortunately, this is different than the availability used for domestic Medallion upgrades. While the flight is still a ways away and there is still time for DL to release additional seats into the instrument upgrade bucket, it is also possible that they will not, in which case all of the Medallion members awaiting upgrades will be upgraded and you likely will not.

We are confirmed in coach for ATL-LAX, and waitlisted for First; Delta told us that to move to a different flight we'd have to pay a change fee. No, we will not cancel if we can't get the upgrade for that one flight. Just hoping for the best. Wish we could have bought when the full-cash price was $2600 vs. the $4000 is is now, but my wife was waiting for some medical tests before we booked (all turned out okay so we're going, but by the time). After the 8 1/2 hours for FOR-ATL, the 4 1/2 for ATL-LAX won't be TOO bad. We do typically fly in Economy. This was a splurge.
