When was your first flight on DL?

This thread

with its biographical content stimulated my curiosity.

Who here has been flying DL longest?

For example, I am confident that I flew on DL as early as 1972, and possibly 1971.

While that makes me feel old, I am confident that some of you can beat me by a decade or two.

Anyone want to fess up?

If I recall correctly, my first DL flight was in 2004. It was a Song flight from TPA-LAX. My first actual flight was on Air Jamaica from JFK-KIN in 1985.

1972? Commercial aviation really goes that far back? From reading my history books, I was under the impression they flew Zeppelins back then :D

Just poking fun at you my friend :)

PHL-ATL, connecting to MCO in October 1997. I was six and a half, and one of my first ever flights was on the L-1011.

If you count NW, then it was PHL-MSP for a family trip in June of '97.

First Delta flight for me was in February 1992, BOS-MCO on the L-1011 in First Class.

First flight ever was on USAir in 1986, LGA-BTV-LGA when I was less than a year old. Can't remember that flight, but can remember my first Delta flight

Yes there was commercial aviation in 1972.

But, if you didn't get your goggles positioned just right, the wind in your face made your eyes water really bad. :D

My first Delta flight was EWR-SLC in 2002, during my senior year of high school.

My first flight ever was JFK-AMS-BUD on KLM business class in 1987. I was 3 years old and sat in the upper deck of a 747. I still have the complementary ceramic tile coaster they gave to us.

mine was when I was about 5 years old .
there was a fly in my fruit juice and my mother to told me to shut-up and drink it.

Professionally it would have been DFW-EWR in 1993 - back in the days of the DL DFW hub.

I think 1960. MIA to MSY and back a number of times.
But it might have been Eastern. Hard to be sure.

I certainly can't beat you as I wasn't alive in 72 or 71. :D

My first DL flight was to LAX via SLC in May 1992. I (my family) won a trip to Disneyland back when Delta was the "official" airline for DL/WDW. I am pretty sure the long leg was on an L-1011. Don't find those these days.

Actually I think I still have all of our SkyMiles cards. I was savvy enough, even in high school, to know we all should have FF accounts. Comes in handy since the first seven numbers of our SM accounts are identical. Plus, some of those miles are still floating around as most of my family do not fly frequently. Just enough that they don't expire.

ATL to ORD on an almost empyt L1011 Tri-star. Threw up in the airport bathroom after arrival.

Imagine my surprise the next time I got on a non L-1011 tristar.

When I flew Eastern out of Atlanta, more often than not we had to walk out to the plane and up the stairs.

I didn't really start flying Delta regularly until EA went belly up but my first Delta flight was 70 or 71 out of Miami

I was an EA leisure flyer and I never flew DL until I got a new job in the fall of '78. About a month into the job I was told to do something in Atlanta day after tomorrow and to call the TA that the company used for a ticket. Not knowing the procedure, I simply said "Newark to Atlanta early Thursday and the last flight back."

When the EWR-ATL ticket was delivered, I noticed that it said "F" class but just went about my business and never said a word to anybody. I subsequently found out that the TA had been instructed that company executives flew in first and they figured that I must have been one.

It turned out to be a job with heavy travel, nobody ever told them anything otherwise, and that is where I developed the front cabin habit for which I have never undergone any addiction treatment.

BTW, I do remember that it was a 727.

My first Delta Flight is coming soon. Old NWA route NRT-SEA.

My mom is a native of ATL and her dad was a pilot. Delta is always her first choice. I think she has been flying with them since at least the late 60s or early 70s.
