You know you're a lowly Silver when...
I was #34 of 36 on the upgrade list on my EWR-DTW flight last night with 2 open seats! At least my exit row and "Have One on Us" coupon made it feel like FC.
LOL...talk about a corporate flight.

If it makes you feel better, it happens to Golds as well! I was #27 for four open F seats in a MD88 out of SAT(!!!!) There was a big congress in town and I was not aware of that. However, when I saw the list all I thought was: §/$&§/§&"

Still worse when your 2 of 20 on the list and there is only 1 seat left. I think Delta has devalued all of its lower levels of elite. Even as a Platinum I feel now like a second class citizen flying Delta. I have moved mainly to United at least there I can always scoop up a good economy plus seat that beats delta coach any day.

As another "lowly silver" no upgrade is the usual BUT a miracle happened. I was upgraded 36 hours before my flight tomorrow out of (ready for this?) ATLANTA!
I almost dropped my laptop when I saw the email. So maybe there is hope once in awhile (I think it happened because the usual Europeans travelers transferring through ATL to the west coast probably are missing the flight due to the volcano, but whatever, I'll take it!)

Indeed, even as a Gold, I frequently miss upgrades on ATL-DTW-ATL flights.

Instead of looking at what you aren't getting (that GMs and above are getting) lets look at what FOs get that general members (on a coach ticket) do not:
Hang out with general members and you will feel a lot better. It's hard to ignore the GIDS and the UG list, I know.
- Unlimited Complimentary Upgrade (Full Y Fare)
- (a chance at) Unlimited Complimentary Upgrade (Discounted Fares) 1 day
- (a chance at) Unlimited Complimentary Companion Upgrade
- Priority Seats
- Priority Wait List
- Rollover Medallion Qualification Miles Unlimited
- Medallion Mileage Bonus 25%
- Waived Baggage Fees
- Delta Sky Club Membership Discounted
- Priority Check-in
- Priority Boarding
- Dedicated Phone Line Priority
- SkyTeam Status Elite
