Granted, by the program rules, you can make elite by flying back and forth on mistake fares, but anyone that does it HAS to agree that is gaming the system. Too many have figured out how to game the system...so I think it is time to change the system.

I truly didn't mean to offend anyone on here. Like I said before, I am a purist and wish it would return to a pure form. To stay on topic, this includes the hope that there is NEVER another DEQM promo of any type.

First Class is a joke now...it is a joke because the fares to justify good service are not being met. Yes, it is a race to the bottom with DL and seemingly all other carriers. It is a race because the revenue isn't there.

Please take no offense to anything said here. They are only opinions, and I have never claimed to be anything more than an idiot.

Safe flying.
I've never understood the argument about "too many Medallions", particularly pseudo-Medallions. Consider - There are 5 medallions in a small market, who fly regularly. Then, Ma and Pa Kettle qualify for the Centurion Card and get Gold Medallion status. Delta then decides to run an "eat your way to Silver" promo with McDonalds, and a dozen people get Silver by pounding down 150 Big Macs on their way through the drive-through. Now, this market has 13 Medallions. Our original 5, who are actually flying on the airline on a regular basis, and earning their status through that business. Mr. & Mrs. Kettle, who are fabulously wealthy and either don't travel much, travel via private/charter, or are on another airline usually, and for whom the Gold Medallion is just something they'll remember they have on that next trip to Vegas when the casino isn't comping the travel, and those 12 big mac eaters, who either normally aren't flying, or who aren't flying on Delta anyway. So, at the end of the day, on any given flight, you're still going to see the same 5 faces, loitering around the gatehouse, waiting to hear the siren song of the GA, inviting them to "approach the podium". From Delta's perspective, they're going to be lucky i the promo and the Centurion bring in, at most 1-2 more frequent flyers but I seriously doubt the conversion rate is that great.

By the way, don't feel that you're the "most hated person on Flyertalk" - I've already claimed that honor all because I simply suggested that we might want to tone down the rhetoric here and use less commutative terms to describe Delta's last-minute upgrade procedures. Fortunately, the monitors around here graciously put me in my place, after a stern dressing down by almost every poster around.

Oh geez, I hope DL doesn't forget that fiasco and the revolt that ensued.

And DL, if you fix you award calendar and award availability I will fly more. Oh yeah, and if you stop charging ridiculous M fares I might buy them too.

I was going to say, great idea. But then wouldn't that give them more reason to keep high redemptions?

I feel like there are too many medallions. Seems like half the plane is medallions, and when you're consistently in the double digits as a PM on high fares for the WL you don't feel like anything anymore. But just my feelings, I'm sure DL has their own and mine don't matter.

Would love to see a DEQM promo, as I may have to take a couple of TATL flights over the period. With M fares, could net a cool 60k MQMs with ease.

As to the parallel discussion... I don't care how people earn their status and think elite bloat is a non-issue and that these promos are launched only when travel is down and elite ranks would otherwise thin.

Many of those on "higher" fare classes are not only flying on their employers dime, they are doing it at a contract rate that may be less than some of the "posers". So who should DL be courting - flyers like me that have flown almost 650k BIS miles paid for out of my own pocket, or flyers that are on DL because it is the carrier that their employer was able to negotiate a contract rate with? Which is more valuable long-term? The reality is that DL needs different types of flyers to fill the planes, so the "my status is real but yours is not" displayed by some posters in this thread is a load of b*ll.

LOGIC. Tough to come about these days. Your point is spot on... it's not just business travelers that keep this company going./
