Checking boxed electronics/computer parts as baggage
 

I checked DL's website, and also searched this forum, but found nothing to suggest that I would have a problem checking boxed electronics or computers.

Has anyone recently done this on DL and had any problems?

These items won't be in their original boxes. I plan to pack a couple of those heavy-duty Rubbermaid storage containers with some loose electronic components (cables, accessories) and computer parts (mobos, cards, HDDs, etc.). This will all be a bunch of parts, no complete machines.

I imagine the TSA will have a field day; but the size and weight will be well under DL's limits.

However, I remember recently reading that a computer would be allowed, but Delta explicitly disavows any liability should it be destroyed en route. I can't find the link; maybe I was reading the contract of carriage PDF...

I am checking a computer on my flight on Friday, and I will let you know if they throw up a fuss

as the hard drive will freeze in the baggage hold on the plane. DL will say:

Freezing a hard drive is generally not too big of a deal -- it's sometimes a "last ditch" effort to recover data off of a failing drive. Still, I could imagine a frozen, turbulent hard drive is not good :D

Anyway, my computer is ancient (7 years) and backed up so I'm not worried if it fails. I'd like it to survive, but if it doesn't, no big deal (got my eye on an iMac, but as long as this dinosaur stays alive, I can't bring myself to replace it...)

Baggage compartments are temperature and pressure controlled.

As for TSA, you shouldn't have an issue unless there is bomb making material residue. That's what they are worried about.

I do know that delta will not cover anything inside the tubs whether it be keys, meds, or electronic, so make sure you have everything wrapped up super well. Otherwise, you will just end up with a big tub of expensive junk.

I am sure your tubs will be rewrapped with TSA inspected tape, but you should be fine.

My stuff is not valuable, so I'm not worried about damage or compensation. I just don't want a surprise when I get to the airport and they refuse to let me check it.
