A few years ago we flew regional into DTW and then to AMS. We were rerouted and ended up with a 25 min connection (vs. an overnight delay in MSP). We ended up hustling through the airport, but we did make it.

My 6AM flight (last Monday) into DTW was delayed by 30 min, turning my 45 minute connection into a 15 minute one. I hustled (walked very fast, but didn't run) from A to B (I didn't have to use the tram as my gate was near the tunnel) and made it just before they closed the boarding door.

45 minutes is plenty. You can even visit the skyclub for a quick drink, or shower, and make your flight (as long as they aren't closed) :D

I know this is OT in terms of the OP, but can those who know DTW tell me when the GE calendar clears for an interview? I tried to book June 7 but the entire month was blocked off as was even May and much of April and that is not the case at places like ATL and DFW.

How far in advance do they open the GOES calendar for GE interviews? I have one shot at June 7 and really need to get it or I will have to drive to DFW.

That's surprising, I was able to get in for an interview in a matter of days after sending my app (that was last October)

Try calling the DTW GE office and see what they say, if I recall there's a phone # on the GOES site. They were very helpful when I dealt with them.

FYI, the CBP office that does interviews is in the other (non-DL) terminal.

The GE office at DTW is not open today. There are available dates in April and my April trip to ICN takes me through MSP but how I wish it was DTW with the 777. Anyway no other GE hub until going to EDI/AMS in early June.

DTW Connections

1. Only 15 Canadian Airports have US Customs/Border Patrol PreClearance.

2. YUL is one of them :) .

3. Now that you're NOT clearing customs at DTW, you get to unload at either the B or C gates :( .

4. 45 minutes is enough time, IF your inbound flight is ON TIME (late is bad, early is also bad, early means the gate your pilot wants is currently occupied and while driving in circles waiting for them to leave, he COULD get lost.......).

5. Enjoy the tunnel, enjoy the tunnel, enj.... GET OUT OF THE TUNNEL!!! (Please note the lovely water feature on your left as you exit the tunnel....)

6. Note the Tram board and your departure gate, you are now in the exact middle of a 1 mile terminal. If your gate is near here, YOU WIN! Otherwise, Go upstairs to the Tram. There are 3 stops, near that end, here in the middle, and near the other end. The lovely Tram boards tell you when to use the tram, and which way to go!

7. Delta has recently started to pay attention to the FAA's on-time ratings. They will occasionally (see: friggin' at random) close the doors at 15 minutes prior to departure (read the sign on every gate's desk). Yes, they will move you, for free, onto the next AVAILABLE flight, but it ain't a lot of fun...... you might want to skip the coffee stop and get to the gate ASAP.

May your trip be blessed and PRAY you never have to change airlines in Detroit, THAT is an experience we shall not wish upon a friend.......

Amen to that! I shudder to even think about going to the Smith terminal.

Unless that other airline is KL/AF of course! (does LH still operate out of McNamara as well? or did they get moved?)

Should be ok as the Pinnacle flight should be arriving at concourse A to clear customs and immigration. Essentially, you will have to get off, clear everything, come out in the middle of concourse A and find your connecting gate there.

As noted, you pre-clear US customs in YUL and arrive as a domestic flight.

LH moved to the North Terminal shortly after it opened. They also have a lounge there. (Their former lounge in the McNamara terminal now sits empty).

Ok...that makes total sense. I always used to chuckle at the LH ads that DTW was displaying on their huge TV monitors throughout the terminal...Don't they know who pays their bills :)?

you should be fine...

you should be fine ... 45-mins should be more than enough time, so long as there are no major delays or anything along that line.

the time day with arrival/departure delays will be your biggest issue here.

follow everything posted -- definitely use the moving sidewalks, and use the trams in terminal A ...

DTW is a very easy airport run through ...

Good luck ...
