same day change

As a GM I was aware that this was a benefit. I have a flight this week LAS-ATL at 3pm. Because of a change in plans I wanted to change to the 11:30 redeye. There are many more seats available on the later flight so I didnt think it would be a problem. I called the rep who said I could only reserve the seat within 3 hrs of the flight. This means I would have to miss my earlier flight and wait until 8:30 to see if I could get a seat. I could however change now for the $150 fee. This makes no sense to me. It would just be a wash, the redeye actually is in less demand. I travel somewhat frequently and have been loyal to Delta but have not ever tried to make a change such as this. Could someone who is more familiar with these things tell me if I am missing something.

That is indeed the published policy of Delta; to confirm a change more than 3 hours prior on the alternative flight, one would have to pay.

All you ever needed to know about SDC. I find SDC to be very useful.

If this is indeed true, then at 8:30 p.m. it won't be a problem to do the change.

It's a pretty good program. Of all the things one can complain about with Delta, I don't think SDC is one of them.

Another point. You can do as many SDC as you want during the day. I have often rolled through several flights later in the day to make sure I was on something.

As to the LAS-ATL flight, a word of caution. In your case there are no other later flights and I've seen flights that were only 2/3's full in the afternoon, sell out by the time the red eye takes off..... Make sure you call at exactly 3 hours prior

I never miss flights EXCEPT when I'm in LAS. I've missed flights at least 5 times and had to SDC to a later flight. If there are IRROPs earlier in the day, the redeye will fill before the OP gets a chance to SDC.
