Today, I used a coupon from 2006 - the FA saw me dig my stash out and just commented on how many I had, not how old they were.

Not the old battleax that refused to accept my coupon on a January 2009 flight from LAS-ATL. The coupon expired on 12/31/08.

Believe it or not, if Flight Attendants turn in expired coupons, they are reprimanded. Although, it stinks that there is an expiration date, technically Delta flight attendants are not allowed to except them. - So please do write to Delta, but understand that the flight attendants have to follow policy.

I got my drink coupons in my Gold packet (exp. 12/31/09), but when I put them away in the usual place, I found an NWA Plat coupon for snack or beverage (up to $5). Unfortunately, it expired at the end of February. I should keep better track of these things.
I have four flights left this year and four coupons, but I'll probably be upgraded on at least one of the flights, so I guess I'll have to double up if I want to use them all. Or I could just treat a seatmate. |

I got my Million Miller gift package today. In it were included six free drink coupons, all expiring on December 31, 2009. These chits are virtually meaningless since I only have a little over three weeks to use them and don't plan on flying the rest of the year.

If enough PM/MM write them, maybe they'll realize it too. |

2009 Coupons update
I emailed DL and this is their reply. Doesn't exactly address my inquiry, but it's good enough:
Thank you for contacting us through delta.com. We are sorry for the delay in responding to your message. For newly qualified Gold and Platinum members, the 2009 package received contained drink coupons that have a December 31, 2009 expiration date. We apologize for the inconvenience of the late mailing and you will receive the 2010 credential package in early February which will have coupons valid until December 31, 2010. Our In-Flight department is aware of the situation and have been advised to honor these coupons. Please accept our apology for the unfavorable impression you received in this instance. We appreciate your selection of Delta and will always consider it a privilege to be of service. Sincerely, Ronnie Powers Medallion Desk www.delta.com Original Message Follows: ------------------------ PERSONAL INFORMATION: XXX COMMENT DETAILS: Email about Past/Future travel: Current and Future Nature of Comment: Question Suggestion Email Pertaining to: Onboard_Aircraft Email about Other topic: Comments: Dear Sirs In the past, drink coupons "issued" in a given year were valid until 12/31 of the following year. The batch included in 2009 Medallion packages instead expires 12/31/2009. Since new packages are sent out in February, it appears re-qualifying Medallion members will have no valid coupons to use for the first two months of the coming year. I really hope that you will instruct FA's to accept drink coupons with a 2009 expiration, at least for the first months of 2010. Best regards, |

I received a similar response as thesaints. Mine said:
"In an effort to expedite the the Medallion packets with all the new members and requalifying members, the drink coupons were sent out with the 2009 expiration date in error, however please do not worry as our in-flight staff have been notified to accept these drink coupons until the end of 2010." I will be sure to bring a copy of the email with me when I fly to make sure that they do accept my 2009 drink chits throughout 2010. |

Let's hope this is the case...I can still see uninformed FAs refusing them because they failed to update themselves on the latest company info.

I just got my PM package yesterday. The PM card is good through Feb 2011, but my drink chits expire 12/31/09.
Off Topic the chits came with automatic Silver Elite credentials for one-million air miles (EQMs). This is a really nice perk but I hope to not rely on it for some years. |
Reused coupon
I just used a coupon from 2002 without a problem. Most FAs stick them in their pockets and recycle coupons to their friends anyway. If they give you a problem, just say that you called the Medallion Desk before leaving and they told you it was fine and they told you that if you have a problem to call them with the flight # and FA name and they will handle it. Problem solved.
