Million Miler program broken!!!

I'd qualified for Million Miler status some time back, and have been trying to claim my award since then. Today, I finally broke down and did the time necessary to speak with someone in the SkyMiles department (45 minutes).

They say that system is "down" and they have no date for when it will be operational again. Yes, yet ANOTHER promise broken from the NEW Delta. As far as I am concerned...they are the most dishonest corporation in the skies.

PS I tried searching the forum for Million Miler thread, but FT search seems to not be working (noticed some other server issues with FT this past week also).

Don't waste time on FT search. Just use Google. In this case, a search for "flyertalk.com: delta million miler" brings up the threads. In the results, note the "More results from flyertalk.com »" link.

The "lifetime" wording was dropped a while ago. Now it just says "complimentary silver status".

Yes the wording should be "Silver status until we decide we do not want you to have it any longer"

Actually that's no longer true. I confirmed this with Kevin Pinto earlier this week. The Hartmann luggage choices were removed from the Million Miler gift choices due to "financial reasons" with the NW/DL merge. Apparently they wound up with a lot more Million Milers than they expected so the Tiffany gifts are all that remain.

In other words, the new Delta Airlines has more Million Milers that DL management can afford to snub and so here too "loyal" customers are on the receiving end of DL management's "customer giveback" to the airline.

I know NWA only counted BIS, where as DL counts MQMs.

cliburn Nov 19, 2009 7:01 am

I qualifed at the merge and have tried claiming an award and have gotten shot down... so I have been patiently waiting.... thanks OP for posting the results of your legwork.
Guess I will continue to wait......

It's no longer "for life."

It is renewed on an annual basis for as long as DL decides it wants to keep its promises.

Ask any Flying Colonel about how well DL keeps "lifetime" promises.

Do you mean for example a flight is 402 actual miles (as it is between MCO/ATL) but Delta gives you the min 500 mqm credit, on NW you would have only have received the 402? Also the Previous FF progam for Delta gave you MM credit for all miles posted, the change to MQM only started with the advent of the Skymiles program (about 3 months after I started flying Delta after having tried American and US Air after Eastern went the way of the Dodo).

No. NW did not count class of service bonuses just actual miles flown (but the 500 min was in place). On DL a Y fare will get you an extra 50% MQM bonus. Under the NW rules you would still only get the miles flown relative MM status.

402 mile flight in Full Y on DL = 750 MM miles
402 mile flight in Full Y on NW = 500 MM miles

I've had bad luck too. I'm a 2MM, but it took ages to get my Gold status, and now I'm getting monthly email statements showing me back at the Silver level. Gift selection for 2MM was identical as 1MM, etc. Also, I think the bit about currently giving complimentary Gold rather than Gold for life speaks to their customer commitment. I don't trust these folks at all!!!

lov2fly Nov 19, 2009 6:32 pm

Very interesting

OP - sorry for your disappointment.

I got very lucky. Qualified for 2MM late in 2007. Got the thank you letter, looked online at the gift options but couldn't decide on which model I wanted so I did nothing. The letter got filed and I forgot about claiming the gift.

In August this year, I saw a thread on FF regarding how Delta would handle the new MMer's after the programs merged.

I decided to dig out the letter and see if the link still worked. It did and I claimed one of the Hartman Roller-board options. It arrived within the week. Seems pretty lucky now that Hartman has been dropped.

Sad to see that this perk has disappeared.

As I initially suggested: Delta=bankrupt ethics

I'll wait for notification on being a member of the inevitable class action suit.

Seriously, DL's shameful actions speak so much louder than the empty platitudes of expressions for "appreciating our most loyal customers."

5khours Nov 19, 2009 7:02 pm

Another thing, when you think about it the awards are pretty poor. 4MM gets you second tier elite (plat), 2MM gets you third tier (gold), and 1MM gets you fourth tier (silver). At UA you get top tier (1K) at 3MM, at 1MM you get second tier (Premier Exec) plus gifts plus a bunch of upgrades. Also UA gives you status for life. The DL program is pretty pathetic in comparison.

Bigpops Nov 19, 2009 7:04 pm

I too qualified for the MM gift when the merger took place. I tried the MM link mentioned in a previous reply several times. I tried again yesterday and it worked and today I got my official notification of MM status. So all I can say is hang on and it will come.

How did the notification come? Email? Is there anything on your account which shows MM status other than just the actual lifetime MQM.

I received an e-mail stating the normal welcome blah blah blah and a link to the gift selection. The gift selection for me was to have Mrs. Bigpops select a piece of jewlery. not much there I really wanted or needed.

But keep trying this link https://www.delta.com/skymiles/about...3&source=login, and someday it should work and probably some time after that you will receive your welcome e-mail.

BTW I hit my MM just before the two programs were merged but never received anything prior to this time.

When you log into your account is there anyting that shows your MM status?

Justin026 Nov 20, 2009 3:29 pm

When I logged in to to Delta's website a few weeks ago, it had combined my 900K lifetime NW miles with my Delta miles, although it seems like I lost 400K in the combined lifetime calculation. Has that happened to anyone else? I ask because a devaulation this large seems to be the result of sifting out NW bonus miles much farther back in time than when Delta changed its own policies--if they did that, it really isn't fair to NW flyers.

At any rate, the website showed a link to where you are allowed to select the gift. They give you a confirmation note to print out and tell you to wait. My present from Tiffany's arrived yesterday UPS. All worked smoothly.

My new Platinum status is also working smoothly; it is already causing me to fly FT a bit less.

Is it too cheap to use the bracelet as an Xmas present?

Hope this does not deflect a serious discussion but thought the new clip was of interest and wondering if any FTers would show up in the movie.

When I log in and look at the account history page I see this:
Million Miler Miles: 1066865

So look there.

And I think it is classy to use this as a Xmas present.
