Sick of the Schedule Changes & Seat Booting

So yes we all know about the ridiculous number of changes DL has in it's schedules. For a trip booked in March for Nov travel, now in Dec it's changed a grand total of 9 times. It's driving me nuts. Route is MSP-PDX-HNL-ATL-MSP.

I guess I'm more or less immune to the schedule changes as much as the seat bootings. Sure I get plane changes and stuff, but in the past NW was GREAT about putting me back into the exit row or bulkhead seats I selected - I NEVER had an issue even with plane swaps (757-2 to 3 or another 2 config, or even 75x to A3xx).

But with DL now (though flights are NW metal), I now have been booted out of the exit row (sitting next to my sister) for the THIRD time in a row and for the THIRD time in the row the system put me in the middle seat two rows back from the exit and my sister in the middle seat same row other side.

WHAT IS THE DEAL? Did something change on the IT end? Could this be another best in class enhancement? I know it's NW metal, but this has only happened post Oct 1. Do I really have to watch my itins from now on every day!!!

 (getting really annoyed at this merger)

DL bought NW.

Probably not.

Yes.

Yes.

Did they give you $50 after the first 2 free changes?

Same problem here. I'm booked on an itenerary CHA-MNL Jan. 8th. Four changes already. Fortunately, all changes are on the domestic legs so seat changes are minor. However, I went from arrival home time of 4:56 PM, to 9:33 PM. With a layover time in DTW of five + hours.:td:

Major Change MSP-PSP-MSP

Just got the email today for MSP-PSP-MSP for travel Feb/Mar. Big change as instead of same day inbound outbound (9:20 - 10:50, 11:30 - 17:00), it's now 17:00 - 19:30 and 7:00 - 12:45). Well, at least it's still an A319 and not a CRJ. Really messed up our schedule, thank God for the NWA Platinum Line.

Welcome to Dultah?

This is how DL does business. They've been jerking their customers around this way for years. For example, it wasn't unusual for me to have a 4-segment itinerary (e.g. MSP-SLC-ORD/STL-SLC-MSP) that actually showed 16 or 20 segments before they were finally cleaned up. The phone reps would often try to weasel out of cleaning them up at your request.

It's Delta

DL does not do ORD-STL.

Never had a single instance where they tried to weasel out on clearing up a schedule change.

How often did you have this problem?

BS! That's not the way DL does business - you don't normally lose your seats. The only time that would ever shift was if the equipment changed.

No equipment change it didn't show you assigned to a seat, but in the back end it blocks the seats out for you. Now if it's an equipment change it just puts you in another seat, but not necessarily exit > exit or anything like that.

Luckily you can clean that stuff up online now.

I love how Delta's defenders just respond on auto pilot.

Sorry, the BS is yours. Often as not we lost our seats, and not just with equipment changes.

I used to try to stay on top of things & get them cleaned up after each schedule change, but when you buy your tickets 6-9 months out as we did this incessant nonsense just wears you down.

I have never experienced this degree of schedule changes with any other airline.

Tickets purchased 6-9 months out for trips every 2-3 weeks, with schedule changes occuring every 3-4 weeks. You can do the math.

I would track our seat assignments in a spreadsheet, but with DL it just got to be way too much hassle to stay on top of things.

Dultah, the airline which (together with its regionals) owns the bottom ranges of the DOT quality metrics. These incessant schedule changes that are constantly jerking customers around are just one more factor in the overall picture.

Should have written "ORD/STL".

My holiday flights to/from Cancun and to LAX seem to change every few weeks. The only seat loses have been with equipment changes although assignments have disappeared from web site and it takes a call to get them back.

Recently I flew to MSP. Did not like the timing of the flight back but it was less costly than the later flight. The schedule changed and Delta put me on the later flight at no charge. Same thing happened on my ATL-CUN leg and CUN-ATL leg.

Schedule changes aren't all bad. :)

1) Oftentimes it appears that you've lost your seat assignments. However, when you call in, you should realize that the seats are still yours, but not appearing at delta.com until you call to confirm the change.

2) Schedule changes are often great. I have an award for my wife for a tight connection BOS-JFK-SLC on MLK weekend. BOS-SLC nonstop wasn't available. Schedule changed by a few minutes, which I noticed yesterday. Voila, she's now on the nonstop. This happens routinely. Good stuff.

3) To those NW romatnics getting all pissy about seat assignments with schedule changes... realize that NW avoided some of this by not allowing seat assignments at all until the 90 day mark. I will take the tradeoff of seat assignments at purchase with the inconvenience of schedule changes.

NW avoided most of it by not flooding us with schedule changes.

For that, I will give NW credit. You purchased your ticket and have a placeholder for your destination (notice I didn't say flight). When the schedules gel, then start assigning seats.

Allowing mock seat assignments when there is a better than even chance that this will not be the actual flight or aircraft just generates ill will - as demonstrated by the posters here.
