Delta's Unchallenged Exploitation of Africa Comes to an End

United (and by extension of worldwide ATI, CO) to introduce service from Washington/Dulles to Accra, Ghana, and Lagos, Nigeria:

"Exploitation" is certainly a word I would have never used to describe Delta's service to Africa.

Well, just look at how Delta exploited England...

MikeMpls Nov 5, 2009 5:13 pm

Great. The more overextended airlines losing money, the merrier.

"Exploitation" is a reference to some of the absurd reports that have come out of (I believe) Nigeria.

Who cares about what Nigeria claims anyway? They freaken have some prince dying there every week and never send me the millions they claim they are going to send me`1

DLdweeb Nov 5, 2009 5:15 pm

What are the yields on the Nigerian runs? Is it the oil business that makes it attractive? I can't imagine what else.

It sure isn't the spring break crowd.

GUWonder Nov 5, 2009 5:30 pm

Is the ORD-BRU flight timing being scheduled with convenient onward connections on incoming Star Alliance member Brussels Airlines? Brussels has a reasonable amount of service to Africa for such a small non-African carrier.

Besides the natural resource-related traffic, there is the substantial VFR traffic. Speaking of the VFR flows, I wouldn't discount the substantial population of West Africans who have settled in the US. They and their American relatives like to visit their friends and relatives in Africa.

Spring break is a quite popular period of time for US-Africa trips. More so VFR traffic than anything else.

DL exploited NW.

DL will have a stronghold on JNB as long as UA doesn't acquire longer range aircraft. But inside, I was hoping UA would serve JNB, to keep some healthy competition.

Exploitation? You are ignorant. Africa needs the attention and connections Delta was brave enough to give it.

Supersonic Swinger Nov 5, 2009 6:57 pm

I would swim rather than subject myself to United again.

If you need Star Alliance, South African Airways has been exploiting the Africa-US route for many years now.

I would assume they are rather high. Also interntational is the only place left for them to go with out an LCC coming in any time soon.

You are misunderstanding the exploitation reference.

The links in this post should provide some useful context:

Some Nigerians have come with some pretty wacky stuff the last year.
