The first leg of the trip (Phl --> ATL) has cleared for first class. The second leg (L fare), however, has not. There are at least six (6) open seats in 1st class (I know this b/c my wife is already in 1st class so I can see the seating chart). There were the same number open of open seats in 1st class for the last 10 days so none cleared when we reached that 5-day window in which Platinum members are supposed to clear. This tells me that there were 0 seats eligible to be used for upgrade for Platinum customers when they hit their window. I have never seen this happen. I know I may still clear, but this is outrageous that there was not a single seat eligible for automatic Platinum upgrades.

Anyone have any insight here? Am I missing something?
Seat maps do not indicate actual seat availability. It's possible there are more seats sold in first that haven't yet selected a seat.

Also, if DL believes they can sell more seats in F for this flight prior to departure, they are going to hold them back for sale and not give them out.

And lastly, for more information, this type of subject is covered in depth here. A search may yield additional information.

Thanks for the responses.

The actual flight in question is flight 1087 out of ATL bound for Las Vegas. It is scheduled to leave Atl on 10/8/09 (Thurs) at 1:35PM ET and arrive in LAS at 3:00PM PT.

All flights are listed at V=0 right now (2 in morning before yours). The next one at 3:48 pm is showing X=0.

Outraged? That you didn't get your free upgrade?
The flight shows F6 A0 so they've sold 20 of 26 seats. Clearly DL thinks they can sell F seats in the next four days instead giving them away for free. And why shouldn't they? If they don't sell them, they haven't lost anything since you're not going anywhere.

I apologize for my ignorance here, but I don't know what this (V=0; x=0) means. Also, the only flight I am concerned about is the one I provided details on. I suspect those are other ATL--> LV flights on the same day. Not sure how other flights come into play.

Also, where did you get the V=0, X=0 info?

Thanks again.

There are, indeed, 6 seats for sale in the front cabin. I've seen Delta releasing a few seats between the 5 day and 3 day window, otherwise, the monitors at the gate will give you an insight.

I am pretty sure I am going to cancel a F ticket on the same ATL LAS leg so maybe that will go into inventory as an A class for you so you can get upgraded. I have 2 seats booked but my father is going to back out on the trip. I will probably cancel it Tuesday monring.

WELCOME TO FLYERTALK BOTH ivan13 AND PirateCPA

Congratulations to both of you for joining an elite group of people interested in Flying.

Now, ivan13, who is a PM with DL and has no idea where Luggage Tag got V=0, X=0 information, and I assume he does not know what this means.

Maybe, ivan13, should spent some time surfing DL to learn additional information regarding upgrades.

Thanks for those who provided productive responses. I have the info I need now.

As for "lofly", it is not ivan13, it is ivanl3. In regards to your suggestion for surfing DL, thanks but no thanks. Posting here is much easier.

ivanl3, I apologize for the error in the misspelling of your name.

I'm happy to learn that you think "posting" is much easier, than trying to learn about upgrades on your "own". More power to you.

And therein lies the eternal problem of newbies cluttering up the forum with questions that have been asked and answered many times before.

What's a "pax"? Gimme that answer.....Now!!!! Gimme it now!!!!!

Seriously, if you don't realize the world is now a "path of least resistance" place and have not learned to embrace it, you are wholly outdated. It is not the 1950's and more. Come on SFO777 you are not that out of touch are you?

Gotta run now...need to get some fast food.

Perhaps you should try looking around here before posting?

Sorry, but your orginal post showed that somehow you got to Platinum without a clue of the system. Being plat does not automatically get you an upgrade. The seats are allocated and if Delta thinks someone will PAY for them they those of us (like you and I) on the L,U, T fares will be getting what we paid for.... coach seats. There's nothing "outrageous" about it, it's called making money. Those who pay more get more. One of the basic rules of life. You want a luxury car, you don't buy a $3,000 model and hope for an upgrade. You want a first class seat on popular cross country routes. Don't buy the lowest fare. (I do buy the lowest fare since my employer requires it and sit in the back a lot on cross country )

(However, I have never felt the urge to complain that "for my bargin fare it's 'outrageous' that I wasn't upgraded" LOL!)

Wow. That was edifying. I apologize for asking such a silly question. Boy do I feel like a fool....

Back to my diet coke and fries....

In the meantime, can someone tell me what the scoop is about this new Diamond Level class I heard some rumblings about. I currently have 115K MQMs and will likely finish the year at 140K or so. Will this make me eligible? What new perks will I receive? Will this help me with free upgrades on L class coach tix next year.

Be sure to answer immediately, I need to know before go buy another LED TV to watch the NFL ticket.....Thanks mates.
