how to find fare code for a flight?
hello...i searched the forum, however no luck...
My recent flight from Seoul to LAX was a delta flight operated by Korean air. my company buys my tickets and normally I get a Y fare. However this time I recieved a K fare (this is on Delta's milage summary page for me). I checked the amount of money paid for the ticket and saw that the fare prices were similar for my previous Y ticket fares. Is it possible that Delta made a mistake?? Does anyone know how to check or where to check the fare class other than what Delta states? sorry if this is a stupid question.... Thanks |
Welcome to FT! If you have your eticket receipt you should be able to see the fare basis in the "Receipt Information" section. It will look something like this: "LAX DL X/ATL DL BOS115.35TA10X3SJ /-BOS DL X/MSP DL LAX91.16TA14NI/WN1B USD206.51END" The string of characters in bold is the fare basis code for that segment with the first letter signifying the booking class. Also, on your DL boarding pass (if you have one for this trip) the fare basis code is printed under you SkyMiles number.

thanks for the quick reply...I don't have the reciept but i do have the boarding pass...it is a korean air boarding pass however I do not see any informaiton on the fare code...there is a number on the bottom however i'm unsure of its meaning...under that number, I have noticed that sometimes it says Y and sometimes it says DL. in all cases, Delta stated that it was a Y fare on my summary page...
My current stub has DL on it... 1 difference i see in all of my boarding passes is that after the date, all of my previous tickets have the letter K after the Delta fight number or after the date. (these were credited as Y fares) however on my current stub, it has a V....not sure if it makes a difference |

DL ICN LAX 1006 USD *** 3 3M KLWKR + Taxes/fees. it was definitely not a Y as the cheapest Y is : $3642.00 YEB |
You know the other thing is that "Y" is often used generically to refer to the Cabin. Many Boarding passes will say "Class of service Y" but that is the Cabin and NOT the fare class. I have seen many people mistake the Cabin for the fare and think that a ticket is upgradable when it is not.

thanks for the information. this flight was booked by a new travel agency...I beleive that prior, the old agency was paying similar for the tickets...
I also wonder if the previous tickets were purchased on the Govt's dime had something to do with it...do govt/military discounts normally get k fares? |
