Enough time to connect? MEM>YVR via LAX

I have a vacation trip planned to Vancouver and wonderful old Delta changed my flight schedule. I'm flying MEM to YVR via LAX. My layover in LAX was 1.5 hrs and now it's shortened to 1 hour. I've never been through LAX, so is this going to be too tight? I figure regardless it'll be dicey given we are traveling during holidays (Dec. 26).

Will Delta rebook on another flight due to the schedule change if I call?

Thanks for advice.

I'm assuming you're taking Alaska on the LAX-YVR flight. You'll have to exit security, walk or take a shuttle to T3 and go through security there. As long as your MEM-LAX arrives relatively on time and you have your boarding pass for the Alaska flight, you should be fine. Just not much time to sip a latte at Starbucks.

Agreed... My suggestion is to NOT take the shuttle but walk straight out through the parking lot to the other side which should lead to AS's terminal.

Good advice! If memory serves, you will walk straight through the parking lot and when you get to the other side, T3 will be to your left. If you can walk at a decent pace, it should take around 5 minutes from T5 to T3.

Thanks. You are correct, the LAX-YVR leg is on Alaska.

Given that your trip is during the holidays, I would call DL and ask for an earlier flight. You really need more than an hour to feel comfortable.

I did this connection both ways a few times when NW used T2. Then it was a fairly easy connection, although you still had to reclear security in T3. However, I would be fairly nervous about a 1 hour connection between T5 and T3, especially on Dec 26. If your inbound from MEM is on time (and it will likely be if it's the morning flight) and you move quickly doing the transfer, then it should all work out. Figure 10 minutes to get from your seat to the curb, then another 10-15 minutes to walk to T3, then ??? minutes through security, then a couple of minutes to the gate. But you don't have much margin for error.

That said, if you're coming from MEM you're not going to have a lot of choice getting to LA. You might want to look at MEM-MSP-YVR.

Interestingly, this 1-hour connection in LAX does not show up as an itinerary option on DL's website. What does show up are a 1hr 43 mins. and a 3hr 43 mins. LAX connection times options, in addition to SLC and MSP connection options (the SLC option seems the most civilized). Yes, it would be worth calling DL to see if a better option can be arranged.

If you miss your AS flight, they will have another YVR non-stop in addition to SEA or PDX stop ones.

I noticed the same when I checked current pricing out of curiousity. I'm on Delta 3005 (2:30pm>5:01pm) MEM/LAX and Delta 9010 (6:10pm>9:10pm) LAX/YVR. I'd actually prefer an earlier flight anyway so I will call and see what they can do.

Thanks for all the information from everyone - most helpful crowd on FT ^ ^

I called this evening and within a few minutes I was rebooked on an earlier flight via a 1h45m stop in SLC. Just enough time for a drink or two I hope. ^

Thanks again for everyone's input.
